Eau Thermale Avene Thermal Spring Water aka really expensive bottled aresol water

This Thermal Water was in my Birchbox a couple months ago.  I was really on the fence about reviewing this because I felt I had nothing nice to say.   I still have nothing nice to say, but this is my blog and I’m going to say it.

This is what Birchbox says:

BIRCHBOX BREAKDOWN

Dermatologists and beauty editors agree: this hydrating, rebalancing mist—sourced from the medicinal springs in Avène, France—is both refreshing and incredibly powerful. Backed by over 300 clinical studies (not to mention centuries of dermatological treatment), this multitasker soothes redness and calms all sorts of skin troubles—from sunburns to allergic reactions to eczema and itching sensations. Use it as a morning toner, spritz it as a mid-day refresher, or keep it in your purse for moments when skin is stressed. Bonus: It also works to set makeup.

Let me get one thing out of the way – THIS IS JUST WATER.

The only two ingredients listed are water and nitrogen.

This also costs $14.00 USD.  FOR WATER IN A BOTTLE.

I feel like this product is a gimmick. And I think it’s marketing is misleading, as a “rebalancing mist”.  It’s only water, because at the end of the day what really is thermal water?  Do we really believe in magic springs?  Does it matter if it comes from France or Cleveland or Chicago or Des Moines?  It’s WATER.

You spray it, it gets your face wet.  Yup…because it’s water.

It doesn’t work to set my make-up.

It doesn’t work as a mid-day refresher.  It just makes my face wet and then it dries, and it’s back to what it felt like earlier.

I normally don’t write negative reviews, but I really feel like this product is an attempt to dupe us into buying something unnecessary.

Have you tried the Avene Thermal Spring Water?  What did you think?

Nice post, I like using it in the summer to cool down but it’s not as expensive in France. For sure it’s just water, I think it might have benefits if you have really sensitive skin but I just like it when there is no A/C and I need refreshing 🙂

I used it to cool down too, but I could have used tap water too :), but I supposed I would have to find a spray bottle.

Haha sure ! I don’t think it’s the most useful product either:)

Haha good to know! Very informative post and honest review! If you don’t like something birchbox gives you (like really don’t like) can you send it back? Ive kinda been wanting to try monthly boxes now that I just started my blog!

Hahaha no. You can review it on their site and hopefully it won’t appear again. Monthly beauty boxes are fun and inexpensive way to try new products. 10 bucks a month! You can find that in your budget. Bills once a month

I tried this years ago, it’s such a gimmick. You are right, it does nothing. Frankly I’m surprised it’s still around.

People buy these from me at work all the time and I’ve always been skeptical of them. I always get them as gratis and they are nice to cool down in the summer but at the end of the day it’s literally just water in a can. I can’t believe so many people buy into it.
