September-ish empties 2018

8 Oct

It’s probably been about a year or more since I wrote an empties post.  When I started to think about getting back into blogging, I started collecting the empties here and there.  I’m sure there are a lot of items missing from here, but I tried to hang on to the products I wanted to talk about.  I’m also still debating whether to only include full size products or beauty box subscription products too.   I’m sure I will change my mind a 100 times.

i-cant-make-jaqq2f

So what did I use?   Fragrance?  Make up?  Hair?

HB4116

I will probably say a little something about each of the products.   So left to right, we have:

Simple Eye Make Up Remover Pads – These are pretty great and really affordable at just under $7.00.  One pad removes almost all of stubborn eye make up.

Calvin Klein Beauty – This fragrance is really light and fruity/citrus.   It is really great for work and I would get a lot of compliments.

100% Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream – I buy this eye cream on and off and I still like it.

L’Oreal Elvive Total Repair Shampoo – I really like the Total Repair line.  I think it’s the best drug store shampoo and conditioner.

Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb – this is my favorite go to evening and special occasion scent.

Simple Cleansing Wipes – My go to, I use them as a make-up remover and also as a cleanser in a pinch.

Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet – this was an okay moisturizer.  Not remarkable but not terrible.

Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray – one of the best setting sprays on the market, it just punches your wallet a little too much.

Dr. Jart+ Water Fuse – good product.  Recently reviewed on the site.

Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion – One of Holy Grails.

DermaE Purifying Daily Detox Scrub – I really like this line and this was a good scrub.

Drybar Bay Breeze Shot – this didn’t wow me, that’s all.

Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray – I have no idea how to use these sprays so they are sort of lost on me.   I can’t even give an actual review 🙂  but, I didn’t end up with the feeling this product changed my life somehow.

Have you Lovelies tried any of these?  What did you think?  What were your Empties for September?  Link to your blog in the comments 🙂

Thanks for reading!

Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion – One of my favorite products of all time!

21 Sep

Happy Friday Lovelies!

I was looking through all the products I use on a regular basis recently and the Dr. Brandt brand  is in pretty heavy rotation in my collection.  One of my favorite products of all time is from the Brandt Collection, The Microdermabrasion Skin Exfoliant.

HB4116

I have previously blogged about this before here and here.

Even at the $79.00 USD price tag, I cannot stay away from this.  I honestly just think this is the best exfoliator you will get on the market without going to a professional.

This takes off all of your dead skin cells, cleans your pores, polishes your skin and keeps you from aging.  People always ask me how my skin looks so good, this is it.   I use this once week.  You don’t really need to use it much more than  that, it’s THAT good.   This tube, above, has lasted me for 3 years.   If you break down the math, that’s only $26.00 USD per year.  Don’t you spend more than that on the cheaper exfoliating products?  Be honest 🙂

Most other similar products have larger crystals/balls/walnut husks or whatever to do a good enough job at exfoliating or microdermablading your skin.   Some of the other products can actually scratch your skin and/or break your capillaries.  If you injure your skin, you are doing a lot more harm than good.

Dr. Brandt products are available directly through www.drbrandtskincare.com and www.sephora.com.

If you are signed up for Ebates, you can earn 4% back at Sephora and an 8% at Dr. Brandt direct.  You don’t know about Ebates?  What, you need to go treat your self and earn money back on some of the stuff you buy online.  Also, if you sign up for the newsletter on the Brandt website, they have specials and sales very often that you can take advantage of to stock up on your faves.

Do you have a favorite exfoliating product?  What is it and why?

Thanks for reading!

Review – Derma E Glycolic Cleanser

16 Sep

I am always attracted to products with glycolic acids because I have this idea they are super luxe and medical grade quality exfoliators.  Here is a not so quick read on what glycolic acids are, in case you are not familiar with the ingredient.

Ages ago, in my local Target or Meijer (can’t recall), I came across the Derma E Glycolic Cleanser.  It retails for around $8.00.   I think I got it for about $4.00

img_3331

I normally really like Derma E as a line.  It’s natural and their scrubs are really effective.  I won’t lie if I say they are some of my favorites.   So, this was on sale, I’m cheap and it’s a huge bottle.

Here is a description of the product:

Thoroughly cleanse and rejuvenate skin with this healthy, fragrance-free face wash. pH balanced, it won’t strip skin of its natural oils or leave any noticeable residue. Glycolic Acid helps slough away dull, lifeless surface cells and unclog pores, leaving skin clean, soft and youthful looking. Marine Plant Extracts, Chamomile and Aloe Vera help purify, detoxify and harmonize skin with every use. 100% vegan, cruelty-free, paraben-free, sulfate-free, mineral oil-free, lanolin-free, gluten free, GMO-free.

What did I think?

I couldn’t get past the texture of this cleanser!  It’s sort of slimy. Which is weird since it’s a wet texture, but it’s slimy.  And the weird part of it is that it’s cooler than the rest of my products.

So much so, that I actually hate putting it on my skin. I figured out quickly that I needed to warm this up in my hands first, before I apply to my face. Sort of stupid, no?

Is it effective?

I don’t notice any difference if I use this for a month or something else.  So, I would say it’s not unclogging pores or leaving my skin youthful looking.  I don’t think this product exfoliates at all.

Would I repurchase?

No.  Not that I won’t try other cleansers from Derma E, but I won’t be reaching for this one again.

Review – Montage Jennesse Chocolate Masque

2 Dec

I hardly ever buy masks.  I usually get enough of them in my beauty subscriptions, and I haven’t really seen the benefit in them.

However, they are a great way to pamper yourself and to get your skin Holiday party ready.

Recently, I decided to fix this beauty lack and incorporate facial masks to my beauty routine.  At my local grocery store, for a $1.99, I bought a package of Montage Jennesse Chocolate Masque.

If your store doesn’t carry it, fret not!  This line is abundant on Amazon.

image

What attracted me to this was the absolutely creepy picture of the lady on the package.  Mint and chocolate bars for eyes, crusty looking skin. I know it’s supposed to represent the mask.  I still don’t like it.  So I bought it! HA

What is it?

An anti-stress, pore cleansing mask

How does it work?

Slap it on, sit, wait.   Watch Grey’s Anatomy or Scandal.  It will get hard and dry.

It also has some pretty awesome ingredients.  I really like packaging, so I took a picture of the list:

image

What did I think?

First impression, this smells like cocoa.  So I fell in love.  Second impression, this made my skin really nice.  My pores were cleaner and smoother.

Bonus impression, the package is rather generous and you can easily get 3 uses out of this.

Will I repurchase?

Yes.  I also want to try their other varieties.

Have you tried the Montage Jennesse Chocolate Masque?  What did you think?

Review – Dr Brandt Microdermabrasion

16 May

I received a sample of the Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion in my Ipsy in April.  I realized that I never posted my April goodies, SO SORRY!!!

However, I loved this so much I needed to tell you lovelies.

wpid-20140419_112909.jpg

The sample lasted me a few uses.  I thought this was so phenomenal, I ordered a full size after the first use.

Why I love it –

This says that is mimics a salon/spa microdermabrasion and it really does.  I have never felt anything remotely close to a professional micro before this.  I  was sold, immediately.

If you have never had a professional microdermabrasion, expect to feel like there are a million little rocks/ crystals/diamond flakes scrubbing your face.   It doesn’t sting while you are doing it, but it doesn’t feel good.

Your face will be tender afterwards.  It can be red.  It can sting when you apply another product after, especially if it is anything “anti-aging”.

I use it twice a week like the company suggests, and I am loving the results.

SO MUCH CHEAPER than a salon/spa service.

Go get you some!

Review – Glytone salicylic acid toner

3 Mar

Ever since I sampled the Proactiv Fading Pads, I’ve been on a quest to find a comparable product that I didn’t have purchase a whole kit to use.

Here is what I thought about the Proactiv.

I started to look for products that have a 2% salicylic acid component like the Fading Pads.  One of the products I found is the Glytone Toner.  You can get this on Amazon and from med spas.

wpid-20140217_135520.jpg

Ingredients – 2% Salicylic acid., Acetone, benzalkonium chloride, fragrance (Parfum), isopropyl alcohol, polysorbate 20, Red 40 (CI 16035), Water (Aqua), Yellow 5 (CI 19140).

Like the Proactiv, this is marketed toward the acne treatment customers.

I am interested in the skin renewing properties that come along with salicylic acid use.

What do I think of the Glytone Toner?

I think I wish it didn’t have acetone and rubbing alcohol as the ingredients.  These are both drying agents, and I’m not really sure what else they do.  Oh yeah, they smell.

Do I think this is on par with the Fading Pads?  Not quite.

I guess it is keeping my skin clear and pores small, but I’m not getting the glowing and the “wow” that I got from Proactiv Fading Pads.

This can be drying and can sting a lot with over use.  Start with one application a day and then move to twice if you prefer.

Will I repurchase?

I will probably look for another alternative first.  If there is nothing else, then I may.

Review – Épicé Purifying Exfoliant!

19 Feb

Épicé Purifying Exfoliant was in my January 2014 Ipsy Glam Bag.

wpid-20140212_065227.jpg

wpid-20140212_065241.jpg

Oh how I love exfoliants!!!

exfoliant cartoon_s

I was very excited to get Épicé Purifying Exfoliant in my Ipsy.  What a great way to start off the year!

What is it?

From Ipsy:

A unique exfoliant which removes excess dirt and dead skin cells all while activating collagen production and hydrating your skin. This moisture rich formula utilizes mild, non-irritating and anti-bacterial cleansers with micro-fine polyspheres which enhances skin texture and clarity for a clean, fresh appearance. Purifying Exfoliant is also great to use on the entire body and after just a few uses, you will begin to see improvement in the look and feel of your skin.

Benefits:
Micro-fine polyspheres gently exfoliate removing excess dead cells and environmental debris.
Exfoliation helps open pores, which increases excretion of toxins.
Packed with emollients, humectants and barrier protectors to hydrate dry, irritated skin.
Contains several natural collagen boosters for damaged skin.
Softens skin as it cleans.
Non-irritating, antiseptic, bacteria and fungus fighting properties.

This retails for $32.00 USD and you can get it here.

My thoughts

I think this is a lovely exfoliant.  It’s certainly not a budget product and very high end.  It has a pleasant scent and it does what it says it does.

I also like that it can be left on longer to act as a mask.  It leaves my skin nice and soft.

Would I repurchase?  If I had an unlimited budget, yes.  Otherwise, no.

As much as I like it, I don’t think it does anything additional that a drug store exfoliant doesn’t do.

But I am sure happy I got to try it!  Such a generous sample too.  🙂

Have you tried this line?

Review – Dr. Brandt Light Years Away Whitening Renewal Solution

29 Jan

Kassi got me the best Christmas gift – a box full of samples!!! She called it the AnnaBox.  I have a ton and half of stuff to review, so this may take me a few months.

Anyhooooo, first up –  Review – Dr. Brandt Light Years Away Whitening Renewal Solution

wpid-20140124_070827.jpg

The ingredient list on this thing is crazy long, and I forgot to take a picture of it for you.

What it’s supposed to do –

“effective clarifying solution with pomegranate enzymes”

This effective clarifying solution uses pomegranate enzymes to exfoliate away dead skin cells, revealing a clear, even and brighter complexion.

stimulates cell turn over to allow healthier, newer skin to surface

removes dead skin cells, promoting a more even, uniform complexion

brightens skin tone & promotes smoothness

I used this right after I used the Proactiv Fading Pads, and I must say I was more impressed with how much renewing of skin the Pads did vs Dr. Brand.

Dr. Brandt Light Years Away Whitening Renewal Solution retails for $50.00 for 3.9 fl oz of product.   As you can see from my sample, I used a teeny tiny amount compared to what I would get in a full size bottle.

Would my opinion differ had the sample been more generous?  Maybe.  With the bit of solution I had, I rationed it so I could use it for more one day.

To compare, Proactiv+ Mark Fading Pads gave you 5 pads saturated to the max with the solution.

My review

Shrinks pores

Works like a hard working toner

Pleasant scent

Did it renew my skin?  No

Would I buy?  Probably not for $50.00 unless I could try a larger sample.

This is made with a “marine complex” and “vitamin C”.  I think that salicylic acid works better on my skin to renew, which is not an ingredient in this product.

You may like this if you are not a fan of acids or anything harsh on your skin, you are not looking for a drastic change, you don’t like stuff that stings your face.

Happy Wednesday~A
