Review – The Proactiv+ Mark Fading Pads.

28 Jan

I was really excited to try these because I love any beauty product with any acid as an ingredient.  I’m sick, I know.  But hey, it keeps your skin freaking amazing.

So, let’s get down to business with these Proactiv+ Mark Fading Pads.  As you may recall, these were in my January Ipsy Glam Bag.

wpid-20140120_093305.jpg

I haven’t tried anything from the Proactiv line before.  Even though I don’t have any marks or acne scars fade, I was excited to try these Mark Fading Pads because they boasted a 2% salicylic acid solution.  I am a huge fan of salicylic acid and sadly it usually comes in cleansers or gels as an acne treatment.

BUT IT IS SO GOOD ON YOUR SKIN!

What is it?

Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid derived from the bark of a willow tree.  It basically makes your skin shed.

Ok, so what do these Proactiv+ Mark Fading Pads actually do and why are you so excited about them?

1) My skin was super soft

2) Pores were teeny tiny

3) Anything that was waiting to erupt under the dermis – GONE

3) Glowing skin

The bad?

As with any Practiv product, you have to get a whole collection to get these.  Since I don’t have acne, I’m spending gagillion dollars on acne treatment. Duh.

But now I had a taste of the salicylic acid goodness,  so I went internet hunting.  I wanted a toner or pads that I can use in a similar way as The Fading Pads.  I may have found it…will review it soon.

Peeled skin is happy skin!

New Obsession – Korean Skincare and Cosmetics

23 Jan

I have a growing obsession with Korean skincare and cosmetics.  After all, that is the birthplace of the BB and CC creams we’re currently rocking.

Their websites are  pink and girlie, I can’t stay away.

I have my eyes on these  from Missha

Missha Eye Stick Cream

Sometimes my skin around the eyes gets dry mid work day.  I love this idea of  stick eye cream, GEUMSUL VITALIZING STICK EYE CREAM $30.00

Here is what it says:  “Herbal eye care for healthy, luminous eyes.
Mild formula hydrates and protects delicate skin around eyes.
Stick type eye cream can be applied liberally and easily over and or under makeup.

Ipsy Glam Bag January 2014!

20 Jan

Woohooo!  First Glam Bag of the year and filled with some exciting things.  PS.  I took these pictures on my floor and I realized I have the world’s most boring carpet color!  ick

wpid-20140120_093139.jpg

The things I am most excited about – The Proactiv+ Mark Fading Pads.  These are 2% salicylic acid which is so great for treating acne and cell turnover.   I always seem to find it in acne medication, so I was psyched to see this.  Used one of these already and will do a full review.  Sorry, I can’t link to the product because I can’t see it on their website.

wpid-20140120_093305.jpg

Épicé Purifying Exfoliant retails for $32 for 3.3 oz.  This is the most expensive product in the bag.  I received a 1 oz sample, so about $10.00 worth of product.  I already used this and will review it soon.

wpid-20140120_093247.jpg

Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Tri-Wheat Leave In Conditioner.  I love hair products.  yay!

wpid-20140120_093212.jpg

Mica Lip Tinted Balm in Natural.  Pretty color, and it will great on my mom.  So I will be giving it to her.

wpid-20140120_093237.jpg

Smooth Shadow from Elizabeth Mott in Pearl.  This is a highlighter, eyeliner and waterline liner. I’m excited to use this on my waterline.  Putting flesh colored or white liners in the waterline make your eyes appear bigger.  This is a big deal for me since I wear glasses.

wpid-20140120_093406.jpg

Protip-Glasses for nearsighted correction make your eyes look smaller.  Waterline lining with light or white pencils counters this illusion.  Make your eyes pop, girl!

Keep your peepers peeled for the full reviews on these goodies.

Beauty Box Subscription – Update to what we get

16 Jan

Once upon a time I wanted to cancel my Julep monthly subscription and get another beauty box.

sleeping-beauty-photo

This week my wish came true, and now are are both subscribers to Birchbox!  To update, I will now be receiving Ipsy and Birchbox.  These are both $10.00 per month, which means I am still saving money from what I paid for Julep. Julep was $20.00 month.

I may add yet another subscription to my month since I’m used to spending $30.00 and now I’m *only* spending $20.00 HAHA.

Review – Clearasil Daily Clear® Refreshing Superfruit Wash

16 Dec

I received a sample of this from Clearasil a while back, and liked it so much I bought a full size bottle.

wpid-PhotoGrid_1386966480270.jpg

As you can see, I have put a good dent in it with regular use.

I personally really like drugstore cleansers.  I don’t think you need to spend major bucks on a cleanser, I think  better investments are creams and treatments.

Kassi’s and I could not have the most different skin.  This probably works well for the blog though 🙂  You lovelies get to read the woes of two very different girls.

My skin issues are that: 1) it’s crazy combination  – really oily on my forehead and really dry on cheeks and nose.  So dry it peels.  So I  exfoliate a lot. 2) I get blackheads and clogged pores really easily.  Dirt just likes me, yo.

So I look for cleansers that get rid of the gunk on a deeper level, especially on my nose.

Clearasil Daily Clear® Refreshing Superfruit Wash has been really good to my skin.  I was afraid it would be overly drying as the weather gets colder, but that is not the case. My skin still feels comfortable after a cleansing.  It also helps with keeping my nose free of blackheads.  I LIKE THIS A LOT.

I don’t repurchase cleansers super often because I am always searching for something new and/or better.   However, this may be the exception.  I am happy that it is still working for me through 2 different Seasons.   Normally, I can’t use the same product in summer that I do in winter.

HG?  Maybe!

Advice From an Expert – Special Guest Post and Special Deal for Chicago!

12 Dec

We are trying new ideas here on Fairy Godmother and one of the ideas we are considering is Advice from an Expert.

For our debut, I asked my friend Beth who is a cosmetician and owns her own med spa. Yes, home girl has skills.  She is also responsible for keeping my almost 40 year old face looking like a hot little boss.

I asked Beth for skin care advice during the Winter months.

It is important to moisturize your face no matter the time of year, but it is imperative during the winter months. If you already have dry skin, you should up the amount of times you apply per day, but the key here is to not skip over your neck and chest.

Keep your skin moisturized: Choose a good, oil-based moisturizer to keep the skin moisturized and soft. Pay special attention to the exposed parts (and the most affected areas) like your hands, nails, feet and lips. Keep them well moisturized at all times.  Even those who have oily skin must use light moisturizing lotions after cleansing to keep the skin healthy and helps maintains the pH Balance. It is important to use a mild facial cleanser and wash with lukewarm water, hot water can strip your skin of its essential oils and your skin can become too dry and irritated. Make sure to exfoliate at least 2-3 times per week this will help promote skin cell turnover and also allow for better product penetration.
Use a good sunscreen: People like to enjoy the sun during winters but little do they know that exposure to the sun can harm their skin in winter too. Use a sunscreen of SPF 30 or more and make sure that it contains Zinc.  In fact, it should be a part of your daily routine throughout the year. Don’t say goodbye to your sunscreen just because summer is over
Do not lick your lips: Winter is the season of chapped lips and licking them will make them more chapped. Use a good lip balm to keep your lips soft and protected. Lip balm with Vit E works well.
For Chicago area folks, Beth is offering a special on Microdermabrasion.  I get this, and I swear by it.  Yeah, you may looked a bit jacked up the next day, but Honeypie, by day 3 you are amazing.
Package of 3 Microdermabrasion Treatments Plus Basic Facial
Only 165.00 through January
Package must be bought by January 30th to get this offer. The regular price for this package is 255.00. Please mention, print out, or display this email to redeem.

Review: Michael Todd True Organics Pumpkin Mask

13 Sep

I was so excited to receive the Michael Todd True Organics Pumpkin Mask in my August Ipsy Glam Bag because I haven’t used a mask that I haven’t cooked up myself in my kitchen in a long time.  So yes, very excited.

mTODD

This is a rather generous sample of 1 fl oz.  I expect it to last me a while.

The Pumpkin mask is an exfoliating mask with a 5% Glycolic Acid and other enzymes.

My review:

I exfoliate often and I get peels and microdermabrasions.  I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to feel the telltale burn/tingle of the glycolic acid doing it’s job when I applied it.

The color and smell, I can live without.  It’s orange and pumpkin, and it sort of reminds me of baby food.  If you get down with Gerbers, you will probably dig this smell a lot more than I did.  On the upside, the smell fades quickly.

This doesn’t dry cracked or uncomfortable, and it’s easy to forget you have it on your face.  Also, the tingling fades away after a minute or so, and there is no discomfort.

I love that this is organic!  We hate putting a lot of chemicals on our faces, and are slowly shifting to a more natural beauty regiment.

Does it exfoliate?  Yes, but you need to do it a few times especially if your skin is used to harsher chemicals.  I think this is a really nice compliment to my existing exfoliation/peeling routine that I have going on.  It’s not hard to over do it on this stuff, and this is mild enough to use while I’m taking a break from my harsher acids.

Side note – the highest % of a glycolic acid product I have is 20%.

From Michael Todd:

This mask smells so much like fresh pumpkin you will think it’s Thanksgiving. And exfoliant lovers will give Thanks! That tingle is the pumpkin enzyme combining with glycolic acid to go to town on your skin’s flaws dissolving impurities like dead skin and clogged pores. Adds brightness and radiance to the skin and significantly improves the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles after a single use.

If you thought that masks were only for mature skin types…think again!  The key to clearer skin is to unclog pores, reduce bacteria and nourish, tone and heal on and below the skin’s surface. Today’s masks from MICHAEL TODDtrue organics do all that transforming dull, lackluster skin into clearer irresistible complexions.

Have you tried any other Micheal Todd products?  What did you think?
