Sephora Play! November Reveal

23 Nov

Unlike Ipsy or Birchbox, which have some level of customization, I don’t believe Play! varies much from customer to customer.  At any rate, I don’t see a lot of these reveals for Play!, so I don’t feel like this is totally useless.  If you aren’t familiar with Sephora Play!, it’s a monthly beauty box subscription for $10.00 USD a month plus tax.

Maison Margiela perfume sample.  I always like to get perfume samples because I love changing up my scents.

Glam Glow Thirstymud Hydrating Treatment

Caudalie Moisturizing Sorbet

Cover FX Illuminating Primer

Laura Mercier Cavier Stick Eye Shadow – LOVE THIS ALREADY

Sephora Collection Ultra Shine Lip Gel.

I’m not entirely sure how I feel about Sephora including their own brand in the subscription. I do like the Sephora brand, but I don’t know if I want to see it as part of the boxes.

What’s in my make-up bag?

15 Nov

fullsizer

This is what I carry with me everyday.

Starting from top and then left to right:

MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Powder in Medium.  It’s a good powder, does it’s job.  Keeps me from looking too oily 🙂

Sephora Kabuki Brush.  It’s retractable and perfect for the purse.  I got this on clearance last year and it’s now gone from the site.  This is the closest I could find for the price.

Starlooks Kohl Liner in Obsidian.  Still available and only $9.00 USD.

Revlon ColorBurst in Fliratious Charmeuse $12.88 USD.  I love that this doubles as a lip balm. It’s so soft.

Hikari lipstick in Cabernet $13.00 USD

Sephora + Pantone Universe Collection lipstick in Pure Marsala.  This was a limited edition color last year and I went bonkers over it.  There are still items left over in that shade on Sephora’s website.  It’s a red brown shade, and I’m still a little obsessed with it.

Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey $17 USD.  This is one of my favorite make-up items of all tume.

Blotterazi by beautyblender.  This was a Birchbox sample because I don’t know I would actually purchase this.  It’s $20.00 USD and it’s supposed to be an alternative to blotting.  But, if it really worked would I still be carrying around my MAC Mineralize?

Hope you lovelies enjoyed what is in my purse!

Review – Marc Jacobs Lipstick

28 Sep

The 2016 Sephora Birthday Gift was a Marc Jacobs lipstick and eyeliner.  I was very skeptical about the quality of these two products, but I was blown away by the results.

img_3326

img_3328

The shade, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, is a beautiful natural pink.  It looks slightly more done than natural lips.

I absolutely loved the formula of this lipstick.  It’s so smooth.  It doesn’t bleed.  It stays on through morning coffee and snacks.

The shade is perfect for daytime and the office.

I will absolutely be purchasing more Marc Jacobs lipsticks, even if they do cost a small fortune.

Thanks for reading!

Review – L’Occitane Shea Butter Ultra Rich Lip Balm

3 Jun

Last Christmas, I bought the L’Occitane Advent Calendar and discovered some wonderful products from the line.  I was already a fan of their lotions and body butters, so learning about other items in their collection was fun.

One thing I fell in love with was the L’Occitane Shea Butter Ultra Rich Lip Balm.

Loccitane Lip Balm

From L’Occitane:

Enriched with fair trade Shea Butter (10%), this Moisturizing Certified Organic* Shea Lip Balm helps to moisturize, nourish and protect dry lips. The comfort, suppleness and softness of your lips will be fully restored.

*Natural and Organic Cosmetic certified by Ecocert Greenlife according to Ecocert
standard available at http://cosmetics.ecocert.com. Fair Trade approved by ECOCERT Environnement according to the ESR standards available at http://www.ecocert.com

100% of the total ingredients are from natural origin

55% of the total ingredients are from Organic Farming

10% of the total ingredients come from fair trade

My Thoughts

First thing I noticed was that signature L’Occitane scent.  I really love it, so I was thrilled this was scented with it.  I was mildly concerned it would be a weird scent/taste.

So, whew!  The first concern eliminated immediately!

Second thing, this felt so nice on my lips!  It’s not greasy or oily.  It’s just slightly slick. It feels nice and comforting.  I use it before bed because it just sort of sets the mood for relaxation for me.

Will I purchase this?

Yes.  It’s one of my favorite things and I use it almost daily.

Is it moisturizing?

Yes, my lips never got chapped when I was using this.

Have you guys used the L’Occitane Shea Butter Ultra Rich Lip Balm?  Are you a fan of L’Occitane?

Review – theBalm® cosmetics Stainiac

17 Oct

I’ve been using theBalm® cosmetics Stainiac for a while, on and off, since I received it in a Birchbox.

wpid-20140816_160344.jpg

What is it?

Similar to Benetint, this is a pink lip and cheek stain.

How is it different?

Instead of being a liquid stain, this is more of a gel. There is no strong scent, so you’re not smelling like roses. (wah, I love roses)

How does it work?

You can dab it on your lips and cheeks for a flush of natural looking color.  The shade is pretty universal, and I think it would work with a variety of complexions.

The tube comes with a doe tip applicator.

My thoughts…

I think this is easier to blend into your skin than Benetint, probably because it doesn’t run since it’s not a liquid formula.

The staying power is pretty low, I don’t think I’ve been able to make it through a work day with this.  Even when I use a makeup spray, it doesn’t seem to stay on my cheeks.

I didn’t use it on my lips, because I’m a fan of lipsticks not lip stains.  Plus, I don’t like to cross contaminate my products.  I know, I’m slightly crazy.

Pro-tip – and this goes with ANY cheek stain – USE YOUR MAKEUP SPONGE.  It makes a huge difference in how well you can blend the stains in your cheeks.

Have you tried theBalm® cosmetics Stainiac?  What’s your favorite lip and cheek stain?

Review – NYX Butter Gloss

30 Jul

Ipsy gifted me with a lovely gloss from the NYX Butter Gloss line in Apple Strudel.  Given the name, I’m a bit surprised it’s a pink, but it’s a pretty shade.

wpid-20140722_190132.jpg wpid-20140722_190258.jpg

What I like

I like the coverage and the texture.  This gloss is really soft/silky?  I’m having a hard time trying to describe it.  One thing it is NOT, is sticky or gooey.

The shade I have is sheer, but still had a good color pay off.

The tube is clear so you can see the shade of gloss through it.

Doe foot applicator.

Smell and taste are sort of sweet.

Flash.  This was super shiny when I was trying to take a flash picture, so I apologize.

Another flash photo.

What I don’t like

Nothing 🙂  I think this is a great product.

Would I repurchase?

Yes, in other shades.  I think the Deep Red and Red are gorgeous for fall

RED VELVET (BLG20)

Deep Red

Have you tried the Butter Glosses?  Do you like them?

Review – Laqa & Company Sheer Lip Lube Pencil

30 Jun

Haha lube.  I know, I’m 16….

I first was introduced to Laqa through Birchbox and its generous sample of a Sheer Lip Lube Pencil.  Obviously, I liked it so much that I bought a full size.

wpid-20140615_170456.jpg

I bought this in Beezelbub.  The company describes this as a rose, and that’s pretty accurate.  Pinky rose.

Here is how it looks on skin.

As you can see, this is a pink.  If you’re not down with pink shades on your lips, this may not be for you.

My thoughts

I really like the Laqa brand of lippies.  I really like the crayon/pencil packaging.

The minty smell is refreshing.

The formula is creamy and silky.  It applies smooth and the color pigment is intense.

They are a bit pricey, so if spending $18 on a lip gloss isn’t your thing.  Revlon is pretty comparable.

Have you tried Laqa?

Love it or Leave it?

June Ipsy Bag! Pretty in Paradise

26 Jun

June’s Ipsy bag is super fun!  AND even though I have an irrational hate of pineapples, I do love the pineapple print on the bag itself.  🙂

wpid-20140612_070313.jpg

Almost every single item in this bag was a huge win for me.  I mean, like L.O.V.E.

NYX butter gloss – love

wpid-20140612_070321.jpg

Skinn Olive & Enzyme Cleanser – LOVE.  I love the scent of this, I love how it feels on my face.  I love how well it removes everything.
wpid-20140612_070332.jpg
Nicka K New York Shimmer Eyeliner in Green.  SO MUCH LOVE.  This thing has serious staying power.  I even ran 2 miles in this stuff (disclaimer, I was wearing UD primer) and it stayed put.
wpid-20140612_070343.jpg
Marc Anthony Dream Waves Beach Spray – LOVE!  I’ve never used a beach spray before and was skeptical.  But I’m wearing it two days in the row now.
wpid-20140612_070426.jpg
The not so love – Be A Bombshell Lash Out Mascara
wpid-20140612_070412.jpg
I think be a bombshell is sort of hit and miss with their products, so I wasn’t sure what to expect.  I’m not sure if this stuff was super old or dry, but it did NOTHING for my lashes.  Zip, nada. nothing.
Oh well
I loved everything else.

Birchbox May Beauty Box

14 May

We have been oh so busy with life!  Forgive us!!!!

I was so psyched to receive this Birchie.  I am in love.

wpid-20140511_085923.jpg

wpid-20140511_090048.jpg

LOQA Lip Lube Pencil.  I won’t lie, I looked at this and cringed.  HARD.  It’s PURPLE.  I dig purple, but on lips?  I was skeptical.  Luckily, this is amazing. I love the purple color for spring!  And it smells minty. Yum.

wpid-20140511_085947.jpg

I was excited to get this shave cream, but it turned out to be a meh.  It’s not terrible, but it’s really expensive and not worth the $20.00 price tag.  Drugstore shaving cream is amazing, why spend so much more?

wpid-20140511_090016.jpg

Vitamins!  These are gummie yummies.  Pricier than what you may find at a drug store, but you are also getting two supplements in one – a multi and a Omega3.

wpid-20140511_090007.jpg

Sunscreen, have not tried this yet!

wpid-20140511_085936.jpg wpid-20140511_090024.jpg

Shampoo and Conditioner which I haven’t tied yet either.

What did you get?  Do you love it?
