What I am trying – Smashbox Camera Ready BB Eye Cream!

21 Feb

BB cream for your eye?  Yes, says Smashbox.

I needed to try this because I love BB/CC anything and I love a good under eye concealer.

So I requested a sample from my local Sephora.  Here is a link to the product.

From Sephora:

What it is:
An innovative eye cream that features all the benefits of a traditional BB cream.

What it does:
Simplify your beauty routine with this do-it-all formula that comes in a range of shades and combines the benefits of BB Cream with the coverage of concealer. It fades the look of dark circles instantly and over time, reduces the appearance of puffiness, visibly smoothes fine lines and wrinkles, and improves firmness. It also primes, protects, conceals, hydrates, and illuminates.

I have a generous sample, so I am really excited to play around with this.  It retails for $25.00 USD, not super expensive.  So if I like it, I will shell out my dollars for this.
I will do a full review after about a week.
Have you tried Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream Eyes yet???

Review – GARNIER Skin Renew Anti-Dark Circle Eye Roller

18 Feb

I bought the GARNIER  Skin Renew Anti-Dark Circle Eye Roller about a year ago.  I wanted something I could keep in my purse to freshen up when I am going out after work.

This is also before I knew about Dream Lumi from Maybelline or YSL eclat touche.

wpid-20140212_070424.jpg

You can get this at Ulta for $12.99 USD.

What is it?

From Ulta:

Instantly roll away dark circles. Caffeine Gel + Rollerball energizes and stimulates microcirculation. Lemon Essence brightens. Tinted mineral pigments instantly corrects dark circles. Over time, lack of sleep and daily fatigue make eyes look tired. Microcirculation slows and the delicate skin around the eyes becomes thinner and more translucent. Dark circles and shadows appear. Skin Renew Anti-Dark-Circle Roller is right for you if you want to instantly correct the appearance of dark circles and brighten the skin around your eyes

My impression?

This is a very sheer lightly tinted concealer.

Does the caffeine work?  I don’t have dark circles, so I cannot attest to that claim.

I really like that it’s a roller ball and I don’t have to dip my fingers into a pot.

Does it cover? Yes.

GARNIER  Skin Renew Anti-Dark Circle Eye Roller applied.

GARNIER  Skin Renew Anti-Dark Circle Eye Roller blended in.

As you can see, this color is a bit yellow in tone.  This may work better for you if you have more yellow in your skin.  Doesn’t work super well for me.  Also, I think it looks better on my hand than it ever does under my eyes because of the color issue.

When brought up to the lower lash line, this may crease.  To get around that or if you are drier around the eyes, apply eye cream before putting on GARNIER  Skin Renew Anti-Dark Circle Eye Roller.

I keep a cheapie eye cream and this in my purse for a quick pick me up.

It does brighten up the eye area and makes you appear refreshed when applied just right.

Will I repurchase GARNIER  Skin Renew Anti-Dark Circle Eye Roller?  Probably not.  There are a lot of products on the market that do similar and I am anxious to try them.

Have you tried GARNIER  Skin Renew Anti-Dark Circle Eye Roller?  Do you like it>

Dupe War #9 Beautyblender vs Perfectionist vs Flawless Beaute Makeup Blenders!

27 Aug

This one is probably more of a battle royale. What we are comparing is the original Beautyblender and The Sephora Perfectionist to the Flawless Beaute Makeup Blender Sponge Sample Pack.

A few weeks ago, a charming gal from Beauty Junkees emailed us at Fairy God Mother and asked if we would be interested in reviewing the makeup sponges she is selling. We love make up applicators, and I am especially obsessed with the new sponge craze, so of course we said yes.

Full disclaimer – we didn’t purchase this product, but nevertheless we have conducted an unbiased review.

What they are: Makeup Sponges Set Includes 4 Unique Shaped Blender Makeup Sponges:

Pink Teardrop (Egg), Purple Pear, Green Spade, Blue Sculptor

Same Quality as Expensive Beauty Blenders at 1/2 the Price Highest Quality Material: Vitamin E Infused, Latex Free, Non Allergenic, Odor Free, Smooth Suede Texture

What they do:

Creates an amazing even, natural flawless finish that is difficult to achieve with other makeup sponges, brushes or fingers Works with all makeup, including creams, liquids, minerals, and powders; does not soak up excessive amounts of product like other sponges

Our review: I will admit, I was way impressed. I love the original Beautyblender, but I don’t love the price tag. I really like the Sephora Perfectionist, the price was better.

But I love Flawless Beaute even more and my wallet will love it and thank me. And then I will buy more makeup with the money I will save.

Here is why: You are getting 4 really high quality sponges in different shapes. BIG BENEFIT – you can play with the different sponges and figure out which is your favorite. There are subtle differences in each shape, so you will most likely like one or two more than the rest.

There is no difference in the application and result between any of these brands. You are still getting a really beautiful flawless finish regardless of brand name and price. So if the result is virtually the same, why the heck would you spend more $$$? Makes no sense. Unless you are a trust fund baby, in which case you are not reading our blog anyway. 😉

I was intrigued by the flat sponge, and quickly figured out it was a surprise favorite. I really like it for the stipple effect of blending in my CC cream.

Flawless Beaute Blue Sculptor

I think this sponge would work really well with a cream blush! I normally hate cream blushes because I can never get them to blend correctly, but I’m considering getting one just to use with this sponge.

I love any of the tipped ones for concealer, and I love blending foundation with the two tear drops. I used them all wet with liquid foundations, cream concealers, and cc creams. Pretty face achieved! Boom!

On the Left: Original Beautyblender On the Right: Flawless Beaute Pink Teardrop

On the Left: Sephora the Perfectionist On the Right: Flawless Beaute Green Spade

                  2013-08-24 07.37.41

         Flawless Beaute Purple Pear

The differences: There are No differences in the application result. The Beautyblender is the only one of these sponges I have tried that actually feels different. The sponge is spongier, springier. But this is an aesthetic difference, it doesn’t affect how your make up looks.

The math: Dollar to Dollar, check this out. Beautyblender – $19.95, Sephora – $12.00, Flawless Beaute Makeup Blender Sponge Sample Pack of 4 (FOUR!!!!!) $29.97. This comes out to just under $7.50 per sponge.

So seriously, go get you some of these sponges!

Also, Beauty Junkees are giving away a set of these amazing goodies to one lucky winner.  Click here to enter contest!  The winner will be notified by us, and the prize will be shipped by Beauty Junkees.

Good luck!!!!

Concealer – The good & the bad.

31 Jul

Let’s face it, we all have blemishes we want to cover up.  May it be redness, acne, spots or undereye circles.  This is where concealer is the cosmetic champ.  I have used so many different concealers in my life, especially dealing with acne.

This is my new favorite one:

Ecco Bella FlowerColor Coverup $17.95

Image

What’s so great about it?  Well, its all natural.  I am trying to use less chemicals on my face when I can.  However, it is not vegan as it uses Beeswax.   It’s super easy to apply, very blendable and doesn’t crease.  The lightest color – Beige #1 is light enough for my fair complexion and it isn’t orangey.

Here is a concealer I totally hate  but wanted to like.

e.l.f. Studio Concealer $3

Image

What’s so bad about it?  Ok, it’s $3 bucks so it was worth the risk of trying.  I like so many other e.l.f products but this one just falls flat for me.  It’s super greasy, don’t blend well, doesn’t cover well and just looks chalky.  Maybe my skin is too oily for it or something.  Additionally I found it to appear orange when applied to my skin.

Have you tried either of these products?  How did they work out for you?

The Quest for the Holy Grail…of foundations.

2 May

I know several people who hate wearing foundation or those who only wear it for special occasions  and I’m not going to lie, I am jealous of them.

Since I have red, uneven skin due to a skin condition called rosacea I have been questing for the perfect foundation for years.

100% Pure Healthy Skin foundation has been my go to foundation for the last year.
