Review – Living Proof Perfect hair Day night cap overnight perfector

28 Dec

I’m a fan of all Living Proof products, but I was hesitant of the Night Cap Overnight Perfector.  Full size of this costs $28.00

I have been meaning to use this for MONTHS, and I finally made myself this week.  I really wanted to use up a lot of things before the end of the year.

I wasn’t super into an overnight treatment because I am afraid of over-conditioning my hair and having it look greasy.

However, after an unfortunate result from a “curl”spray which shall remain nameless because I really don’t want to write a negative review, my hair was very dry.

I was finally brave and ready to try the overnight treatment to help remedy the mess that was happening on my head.

So, I slathered it on and put my hair in a scrunchie and slept.  I washed it out in the morning to a huge surprise.  MY HAIR WAS AWESOME.  So shiny and hydrated!!!  It’s been shiny for days.  Also, it has not been frizzy and it has tamed any fly aways.

What Sephora Says

What it is:
An easy-to-use solution that provides up to one week of more shiny, vibrant, manageable hair overnight, with benefits that last through five shampoos.

What it is formulated to do:
Night Cap is beauty sleep redefined. It was engineered to intuitively target your hair’s needs for enhanced shine, vibrancy, and manageability delivered overnight, with results that last all week. It boosts shine for days with weightless radiance refractors that outperform silicones and oils. It delivers lasting color vibrancy by combining the patented healthy hair molecule (OFPMA) with long-lasting cuticle sealing technology to help smooth and seal down the cuticle and reduce pigment loss. And it improves hair’s manageability with amino acids that condition and protect strands, safeguarding against daily styling and environmental assaults.

This power-packed formula was engineered to intuitively target and transform the daily weathering of hair. An amino acid blend mimics amino acids found naturally in hair and penetrates into the cortex to keep hair smooth, soft, and supple. Time-release conditioners and antioxidants ensure hair is properly hydrated while remaining strong and protected from environmental assaults. OFPMA combines with biomimetic lipids designed to mimic the lipids found naturally in the F-layer—keeping hair looking, feeling, and behaving its very best.

Does this deliver?

Yes!  I am very happy with the results.

Would I purchase this?

Yes, it works.  Why would I not purchase it?

Review – Parlor Moisturizing & Repairing Shampoo and Conditioner

5 Nov

In my October Birchbox, was a pair of Jeff  Chastain Parlor products; Parlor Moisturizing & Repairing Shampoo and Conditioner.

I’ve received Parlor products in Birchbox in the past, and I’m usually a fan.  Most recently, I had a sea salt spray from the line, and loved it.

This shampoo and conditioner are rather expensive.  Be prepared to pay $22.00 USD for 8 Fl oz of product.  You can buy it through Birchbox. Here is what they say about it:

This gently cleansing shampoo from NYC stylist Jeff Chastain is a triple-threat of fortification, hydration, and repair. Infused with the brand’s signature scent of ripe peach, fresh cut grass, and white woods, it’s sulfate-free, paraben-free, gluten-free, and color-safe.

My thoughts

So, just a shampoo.  It was nice.  It smelled nice.  It lathered nice.  It was…well…nice.  But it did exactly what it was supposed to do – clean my hair.  And it did that.  It didn’t wow me with anything.

Same goes for the conditioner.

One thing to note – it was gentle on my color treated hair.

However, I didn’t find it to be any more or less moisturizing than any other high end shampoo.

Would I buy it?

Not for $22.  Sorry, Parlor!

Have you tried the Parlor Moisturizing & Repairing Shampoo and Conditioner?  Do you like it?

After a crazy week last week; Olaplex

18 Oct

Last week was a whirlwind in my professional and family life.  So many things going on!  So, as soon as Friday came, I pampered myself with some Olaplex.

Here I am, in a big sweatshirt and no make-up haha. My hair is wet and Olaplex is on my head.

I like to keep my Olaplex on my head for about an hour.  Then I shampoo and conditioner and style my hair as usual.  When done, my hair feels very soft and smooth.

In case you are curious, no Olaplex does not come in a crazy red color.  My stylist puts my hair color in the bottle when we color my hair.  Everything is matchy matchy!

What is your favorite way to unwind after a busy week?

My hair stylist friend,  cares about my hair and supplies me with fun treatments to try.

For the past few weeks, I’ve been alternating between these two Matrix leave-in products.

My thoughts
I thought this was the most shine boosting leave-in I’ve used to date.
Tames frizz for a few days.
Lightweight.  It’s like air
I like the fragrance.  It made my hair smell nice for a full day.
I don’t think this is the best for detangling, so brush hair slowly to prevent breakage when it’s wet.
Doesn’t strip my color!

Moisture Cure™ 2-Phase Treatment

From Matrix:

My thoughts
I honestly don’t see much difference between these two products.
I do think this was is slightly better for detangling.
I love the fragrance.
The Miracle 12 is more a treatment than just a leave-in or detangler, so on that basis I like that product better.
You can buy these on Amazon, Ulta, and beauty salons, Walgreens.  These run about $16.00 for a full size 5.1 Fl Oz.
Will I repurchase?
Of course!

Winterizing your hair care

7 Oct

Do you live in the part of the world where the temps have dipped and you are already needing to use heat.

Dreaded heat, which dries out hair and skin.  Ewwwwww

We are only on week 2 (barely) of October, and my hair is already starting to static.  Irritating.

As a result, I am starting to use my oil in my hair to keep the fly aways away.

What are you doing to help manage your winter time hair?

Review – Suave Keratin Infusion Dry Shampoo

3 Apr

I think I’ve becomes sort of a dry shampoo fanatic.  Less frequent shampooing has made my hair a lot less dry.  🙂

Right now, I’m using Suave Keratin Infusion Dry Shampoo.

I don’t mean to bounce around the brands so much with the dry shampoos, but for some stupid reason the stores in my area are allergic to keeping their supplies stocked and consistent.  CVS, I’m looking at you!

I actually wanted to try the Moroccan Infusion version of this, but oh well.

I still like Garnier Fructis because of the scent.  SO yum!!!

I do think this is a bit more conditioning?  Moisturizing?  A dry shampoo moisturizing…is that an oxy moron???

However, I do think it lacks a bit in the oil absorbing abilities at the scalp level.  I find that I need to use more of the product.

The smell is nice, not overpowering and it fades quickly.

I still want to try the Moroccan Infusion version because I am addicted to that body lotion line…and if the dry shampoo smells anything like the lotion, I will be way happy.

What’s your favorite dry shampoo?

Review: Matrix Biolage ExquisiteOil Protective Treatment

13 Dec

One of my hairdresser friends gave this to me as a gift. She knows my hair well and knows I’m always complaining my hair is frizzy.  Sometimes I like it frizzy, and she hates it. :-p

From Matrix:

Product Description

Protective Treatment is a versatile serum infused with Moringa Oil Blend. This ultimate potion gives hair instant shine, nourishment and control.

ExquisiteOil Protective Treatment has received the “Good Housekeeping” seal!

7 Uses

Mix with your shampoo and conditioner for maximum brilliance

Use for a massage before shampooing like an oil for a special treatment

Smooth on dry lengths and ends for immediate luster

Use on face-framing pieces for simple control and manageability

Leave on extra-dry ends overnight for a non-greasy treatment

Ultimate styling aid for blow dryer or flat iron

Add to any treatment for added brilliance, softness and manageability

– See more at:

How I have used it:

1) As an overnight treatment

2) As a detangling agent after washing my hair

3) On dry hair to control frizz, smooth, and get shiny, girl

My thoughts:

I really like this product.  I love how versatile it is!  I don’t worry about it weighing by hair down and I don’t worry about it rubbing off on my pillows at night.

It smells okay, but the fragrance doesn’t hang around too long.

I’m just reading that I can mix it with shampoo and conditioner, so I will be trying this next.

Would I recommend?

Yes, if you are looking for an oil.  It’s good on frizzy hair.  But it doesn’t give it a huge BAM type shine.  So if you are looking for a more slick look, this may not be the product for you.

DIY Leave-in Conditioner / Hair Perfume!

26 Oct

I have said it before and I will say it again – I love LUSH.  One of my absolute favorite items they have is American Cream.  It’s a hair conditioner that smells amazing- fresh strawberries and vanilla!

The problem is, it doesn’t really detangle my long hair very well and it’s expensive, so it’s not really great as a stand alone conditioner.    [THIS is my go-to conditioner.]

While driving yesterday I have this brilliant idea, like ya do, to make an American Cream Leave-in Conditioner!   Super budget friendly!  Its pretty much a perfume for my hair that also nourishes.  Gosh, I’m smart.

Here is what you need:

  • Any conditioner you enjoy the smell of
  • Water
  • mini spray bottle

  1. Add conditioner about 1/3 of the way
  2. Fill with water
  3. Shake
  4. Enjoy

I’m in love with this guys – I keep walking around smelling my hair.  It’s weird!
