Review-Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo

27 May

I owned this a few years ago.  I didn’t remember if I loved it or hated it, but I need some in a pinch and this was a travel size for cheap.

Oh, Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo, you are not great.

I’m relieved it was only $2.99 at my local CVS.

What do we expect from a dry shampoo in this day and age?  We expect it to not leave residue, we expect it to absorb some oil, we expect it to give your hair new life, to give it body, to make your hair look good.  With dry shampoo, you should be getting 2 or 3 days out of your hair before you need to shampoo. This may differ based on your location (if you are in Florida, this won’t work because I have been to Florida and child, IT IS HOT) and on your level of physical activity.

My thoughts on Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo:

Pros –

It smells okay

It leaves residue. Not super white, like others can, but the particles sit on top of the hair.

It doesn’t really absorb oil.  I’m pretty sure this goes along with it leaving residue.  It doesn’t disappear because it doesn’t absorb oil.

It weighs down hair.  Major bummer.

I felt it made my hair look greasier than before I used it.  HUGE disappointment.  I ended up washing my hair immediately after spraying some at my roots.  Sort of defeated the purpose of it all together.

Will I repurchase?

No, not again. And if your mother is smart, she isn’t using this either.

Dry Shampoo Review – Style Sexy Hair H₂No 3 Day Style Saver Dry Shampoo – the BEST!!!

9 Oct

Style Sexy Hair H₂No 3 Day Style Saver Dry Shampoo changed my hair habits.

Hands down, this is the best Dry Shampoo on the market.  Especially if you have any other color of hair other than blonde.

So what’s the big deal, you ask?

From their website “A translucent light and layerable dry shampoo that helps keep blowouts looking fresh for 3 days. This dry shampoo will provide shine and prolong the time between shampoos, resulting in color vibrancy and reduction of chemical damage to the hair.”

Key word – TRANSLUCENT.  Ladies, this disappears into your hair.  Red hair?  No problem! Purple hair?  No biggie! Pink, orange, green, and oh brunette and black hair….NO PROBLEM.

There is no residue.  Let that sink in…No white stuff left on your roots.

It doesn’t make your hair dull or drab.  Doesn’t weight it down.

This dry shampoo will set you back just under $20.00. But it is seriously worth it.  Also, I feel like I use less of it than the others.

So why don’t you have this yet?

May Empties Post! Products I’ve used up!

29 May

I didn’t have enough products for April to do a full post, so I waited an extra month to do this update.  Here are the products I’ve used up and quick thoughts about them.

Shaving cream – a major staple.  It really does make for a better shave.  W both like Skintimate because it is inexpensive.  We blogged about it here.

Another staple – eye brow pencil! Maybelline Define  A Brow pencil.  Easy to use and decent staying power.  To boost length of wear, top with Ben Nye Final Seal.  You’re welcome!

I’ve already repurchased this.  L’oreal Shocking Extensions Mascara. Good stuff.

I liked this, buy it is pricier from Elizabeth Mott.

My current favorite cleanser right now, Clearasil Refreshing Superfruit Wash.

On to…dry shampoo!!!!

Like Suave, will purchase again.

This was okay, I’m not sure I will repurchase again.

Some samples I’ve used up.

I kind of liked this lotion, I actually really liked the scent. Sort of smelled like pancakes. HAHA But I guess if you’re not down with smelling like food, this isn’t your thing.

Joan Voss – a pretty spring scent.   I am undecided about this.

Not my favorite Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab oil.

I think I forgot to include this in my March Empties which had my huge Korean Stash.

This smelled great, buy faded in 5 minutes on me.  Sorry Harvey Prince Cherrie Blossom! 😦

Urban Decay Eye Shadow Primer Potion – another staple in my collection.  I received a sample of a few formulas with my Naked 3.

Have you lovelies used any of these?  What are your thoughts?

Review – Suave Keratin Infusion Dry Shampoo

3 Apr

I think I’ve becomes sort of a dry shampoo fanatic.  Less frequent shampooing has made my hair a lot less dry.  🙂

Right now, I’m using Suave Keratin Infusion Dry Shampoo.

I don’t mean to bounce around the brands so much with the dry shampoos, but for some stupid reason the stores in my area are allergic to keeping their supplies stocked and consistent.  CVS, I’m looking at you!

I actually wanted to try the Moroccan Infusion version of this, but oh well.

I still like Garnier Fructis because of the scent.  SO yum!!!

I do think this is a bit more conditioning?  Moisturizing?  A dry shampoo moisturizing…is that an oxy moron???

However, I do think it lacks a bit in the oil absorbing abilities at the scalp level.  I find that I need to use more of the product.

The smell is nice, not overpowering and it fades quickly.

I still want to try the Moroccan Infusion version because I am addicted to that body lotion line…and if the dry shampoo smells anything like the lotion, I will be way happy.

What’s your favorite dry shampoo?

February Empties!

13 Mar

I have been allergic to writing this post or something. Sorry it is so late.

Matrix Total Results Color Care Conditioner.  I loved this stuff.  I am repurchasing.

Eco Friendly Living Dry Shampoo.  This was an Etsy buy and I’ve reviewed it here.  It lasted me almost a year!  I really like this product and I will probably repurchase.  I alternate between this and drug store dry shampoos.

Nivea Creme.  This was seriously a life saver during our coldest Chicago days.  I went through this tube in a month. I will remember to get this again next winter.  Seriously good stuff.

Vaseline Total Moisture Cocoa Radiance.  Reviewed here.

Pixi Lash Booster Mascara. Reviewed here.  I don’t think I will be buying this now that I discovered L’oreal!

Armani Night fragrance.  I think this may be discontinued.  I finally forced myself to use up all my old perfumes.

Beauty Protector reviewed here.

Nailtiques – amazing. Proof here.

L’occitane Hand Cream.  Lovely scent, but not as moisturizing as Nivea.

Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab oil imps in Cheshire Cat, Pool of Tears, Iambe.  I liked these, but I am moving away from oils now, so I am trying to go through my huge collection of BPAL imps.

Korean BB samples.  That review is pending since I am still going through my sample stash.

Hope you enjoyed!

Review – Serge Normant Meta Revive Dry Conditioner!

24 Feb

From my very first Birchbox a dry conditioner!

We are pretty serious connoisseurs of dry shampoo here at YourFairyGoedmothers.

I see a freaking dry conditioner in my Birdchbox, do you think I got excited?

You better believe it!

$25.00 USD for 3.2 oz.

From Birchbox:

Argan oil makes hair soft and supple while fortifying the cuticle to help hair shine. Cornstarch absorbs oil without weighing down your mane.

My thoughts?

OMG I love how this smells.  Seriously!

Does it condition? Yes, it does.  But I found there is a trick to using this.  When I would use it in the mornings and then style my hair, I didn’t feel it was much softer or especially conditioned.  It was okay, but not mind blowing.  BUT, when I used it the day before and then the following day wore my hair rolled up, when I took it out of the roll, BAM…conditioned soft hair.

Using the next day approach – I dry shampoo and dry condition, then sleep on my hair.  I keep it rolled up like this:

Would I buy it for $25?  I don’t know. I like using drugstore brand dry shampoos, so I am hoping they come out with a conditioner version.  However, I found that I use way less of the conditioner than the shampoo, so a smaller high end product may last me a while.

I am now very intrigued in getting more dry conditioners.

Have you used a dry conditioner in the past?

Lulu Organics – Jasmine Hair Powder

22 Jan

Totally wanting to try the Lulu Organics Jasmine Hair Powder.  I am crazy for the packaging.

It’s sort of pricey for a dry shampoo.  $30.00 for 4 oz.

Also comes in travel size for $9.50 (1 oz)

Have you tried Lulu Organics before?

Bam! How to get big beauty queen hair!

21 Jan

“Got my hair up real big beauty queen style” – Summertime Sadness, Lana Del Rey

My stylist friend introduced me to the Matrix Mega Dust.

What is it?  It’s a texturing powder.

What does it do?  It gives your hair volume

How do you use it?

Sprinkle small amounts in your hair along the hair line.  I like to use it in the back and the sides to give my hair oomph.  Take small sections of hair in the back and at the crown, sort of like if you were lifting it to tease it.  Sprinkle, then move to the next section (either a row down or to the side) and sprinkle again.

Run your fingers through it to activate it.  It becomes tacky on your hair.  Not everyone may like this, so keep it in mind when you buy it.

Added bonus

When partnered with a dry shampoo this helps prolong your time between shampoos by keeping your hair from going flat.

New Fave – Garnier Fructis Haircare Volume Extend Instant Bodifier Dry Shampoo for Fine or Flat Hair

18 Nov

I heard about this on a YouTube video and wanted to try it for myself.

This smells so good!  Important for us non-blonds, this blends with your hair really well.  Even on reds.

Also, it’s only $5.99

Go get you some!

What’s your favorite dry shampoo?  Do  you use dry shampoo?

Style Guide – Hat Head!

14 Nov

We live in Chicago and this week has been so cold!  WINTER IS COMING.

Winter is a great time to grow out our hair and to train your hair to not need to be washed so frequently because you can wear hats!

I have often avoided hats because I feel like they aren’t cute but last year I embraced wearing hats!  Just find a few you love and you will thank me later.  For great, cheap hats try Target or H&m.

Pro tip: if you need to take your hat off (work, restaurant, etc) I recommend keeping dry shampoo on had to help make it look less dirty and less frizzy.  Also, wearing a braided style can help make you look done-up with minimal effort.

Here are some cute styling idea:

chunky knit slouchy beanie with loose waves.

Straight with volume and a statement hat.  Warm and cute!

Beanie, Blazer and waves!  Chic!

Slouchy beanie with side braid.  This would look fabulous with a fishtail braid!

Beret with side braid.  Would look cute with pigtail braids!
