Coastal Scents is having a sale on their Urban Decay Naked palette dupe.  Looks like a combo of Naked 2 and Naked 3. I have not used this palette but have had great success with Coastal Scents eyeshadows in the past.

Dupe – Urban Decay vs NYX Setting Spray

9 Jan

Makeup Setting Spray is a must have for anyone who wears makeup!  Seriously.  Rubbing your face off is dumb, stop doing it.  We are here to help you do it for cheap!

Image

We made a post a while back comparing Urban Decay’s setting spray vs E.L.F.  You can read it HERE.

Image

Let me summarize it for you – the E.L.F one works about the same and is $3. The problem with the E.L.F. is it smells like feet for the first minute of having it on your face.  Kinda gross, right?  That is what drove me to trying the NYX spray.

The NYX Setting spray comes in two varieties – Matte and Dewy.  I opted for the Matte as that is finish I most prefer, although I have heard that the dewy one is actually better for dry, Winter skin.

It retails for $7.99, so it’s a bit more expensive than the E.L.F.

The Urban Decay setting spray is $29 – that is a savings of over $20.  SCORE!

The NYX doesn’t smell funky to me, didn’t break me out, makes my face powder look lovely and holds my makeup in place.  Really, it works the same as the Urban Decay – maybe it has a tiny bit less staying power but it’s not worth pay $20 extra IMO.

New Fave and Dupe: Suave Naturals Body Wash! Bath and Body Works Dupe!

17 Sep

I’m so crazy about this scent right now!!  It’s from the Suave Naturals line.  This retails for under $4.00 USD.

The scent reminds me of the Sweet Pea from Bath and Body Works.  I only used the BBW lotion, not the wash so I can’t compare its staying power.  However, the scents are very similar out of the bottle.  Bath and Body Works Sweet Pea Shower Gel is $11.00 USD.

It smells so fresh and summery!  It will probably be my last summer scent I use for the Season. Sort of sad because I love summer so much, but it’s also fun to try new products.

Why I like it:

1) fragrance is so nice

2) it lathers really well

3) it’s very inexpensive

4) it can be used for shaving

Have you used any Suave bath products?  What did you think?

Lips – Top Picks

10 Sep

Not going to lie but I am kind of a lipstick noob.   I didn’t really wear it until this year (aside from a bad stint in high school when I though dark / black lips were cute on me.)

After experimenting, reading reviews, spending a bunch of cash.  I have decided these are my favorites:

LUSH – Lipstick $18.95: Highly pigmented, cute colors and they go out of the way to help you find your perfect shade at the Lush Store. It also has jojoba oil and rose wax to help moisturize your lips.

Image

Stila – Stay All Day lipstick $22: I received a sample of this in my August Birchbox and I just love it.  Has staying power and feels weightless.  The red shade (Beso) I have is perfect!

Image

MAC- Lipstick $15: A cult classic for a reason.  They have so many shades, so you will certainly find yours.  The staying power isn’t as good as the two previous liquid lipsticks but I still love it.  (especially their reds and pinks).

NYX Matte Lipstick $6:  My go-to drugstore lipstick.  I love the matte finish and $6 is freaking cheap.

Urban Decay Naked 2 dupe for $5

18 Jun

I found this adorable little E.l.F eyeshadow palette at Marshall’s for a whole $4.99 yesterday.  I have been on the hunt for a dupe for the Urban Decay Naked2 Palette for a wedding I am going to this weekend and I think this might be it.  The colors are incredibly close to what comes with the Naked2 but then some.

LOOK AT THE CUTE LITTLE BOOK IT COMES IN!  AHHH.  So Cute.  Perfect for travel!

Here is the Naked 2 Palette for comparison:

I have not shelled out the $50 for the Naked 2 palette so I can’t officially call this a Dupe War but the shimmer in both palettes is very similar as are the colors.  Totally a great palette for daytime wear.

I am going to a wedding in Yosemite so I wanted to have nice earthy tones with some playful shimmer that is why this E.L.F. palette is worth it for me.  It’s small, so perfect to toss in my purse of makeup bag.  Plus the $45 dollars I saved i’m going to spend on filling my face with all the San Francisco sushi ever.  -kassi

Dupe War #8 MAC Dupe Folie vs E.L.F. Aubergine

7 Jun

I found this dupe when I was desperate for eye shadow to fill in the brows, and I didn’t feel like going to MAC.  Also, we like E.L.F. a lot here at the Fairy Godmother!!

I found Aubergine or Abergine from E.L.F.  The color I have is marked as Abergine, without the “U”.  But online it is called Aubergine.  Not sure if this is misprint or they changed the name.

MAC Folie $15.00 is on top, E.L.F. Aubergine $1.00  is the top left in the compact.

Here they are Swatched:

MAC left, E.L.F right

The Folie is red based and has a better color payoff.  The Aubergine is cooler purple based and is more metallic.

However, they are pretty close in color one the skin as you can see.

Hold on, let me do the math for you.  $15.00 for MAC or $1.00 for E.L.F.?   You’re saving $14.00!!!!

Have you ever discovered any good dupes?

Pro tip – Pinterest Protection – Make your own Pore Strips (aka how to remove your eyebrows)

30 May

Another Pin that is being shared heavily on Pinterest caught my eye today.  I know those Biore strips are satisfying in the grossest way possible but they are pricey.  So the idea of making your own sounds great right?

Image

WRONG!  Unless you want to look all Amanda Palmer and draw your eyebrows on like some kind of early 2000’s goth.  (sorry, not cute)

Image

Don’t believe me that it will take your eyebrows off – our friends at Pin-tried It demonstrate.

I’m sure it can be safely done, but I wouldn’t risk it.  I also don’t really think it could feel all that great to rip all the tiny hairs off your face…unless you feel like you need a little waxing.
