Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion – One of my favorite products of all time!

21 Sep

Happy Friday Lovelies!

I was looking through all the products I use on a regular basis recently and the Dr. Brandt brand  is in pretty heavy rotation in my collection.  One of my favorite products of all time is from the Brandt Collection, The Microdermabrasion Skin Exfoliant.

HB4116

I have previously blogged about this before here and here.

Even at the $79.00 USD price tag, I cannot stay away from this.  I honestly just think this is the best exfoliator you will get on the market without going to a professional.

This takes off all of your dead skin cells, cleans your pores, polishes your skin and keeps you from aging.  People always ask me how my skin looks so good, this is it.   I use this once week.  You don’t really need to use it much more than  that, it’s THAT good.   This tube, above, has lasted me for 3 years.   If you break down the math, that’s only $26.00 USD per year.  Don’t you spend more than that on the cheaper exfoliating products?  Be honest 🙂

Most other similar products have larger crystals/balls/walnut husks or whatever to do a good enough job at exfoliating or microdermablading your skin.   Some of the other products can actually scratch your skin and/or break your capillaries.  If you injure your skin, you are doing a lot more harm than good.

Dr. Brandt products are available directly through www.drbrandtskincare.com and www.sephora.com.

If you are signed up for Ebates, you can earn 4% back at Sephora and an 8% at Dr. Brandt direct.  You don’t know about Ebates?  What, you need to go treat your self and earn money back on some of the stuff you buy online.  Also, if you sign up for the newsletter on the Brandt website, they have specials and sales very often that you can take advantage of to stock up on your faves.

Do you have a favorite exfoliating product?  What is it and why?

Thanks for reading!

Review – Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish™ Hot Cloth Cleanser

23 Jul

I was super excited to receive Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish™ Hot Cloth Cleanser in my Bichbox!  I have been coveting this cleanser for a while, but never wanted to spend $20.00 on a cleanser.

wpid-20140723_063338.jpg

From Birchbox

How it Works

This creamy cleanser contains moisturizing cocoa butter, and two of nature’s best astringents: eucalyptus essential oil and rosemary. These plant oils lift dirt off the skin’s surface without disrupting the natural barrier function. With the use of the brand’s 100 percent cotton muslin cloth, skin is gently polished without irritation—perfect for even the most sensitive of complexions.

How to Use

Gently massage one to two pumps onto dry face and neck in circular motions. Run warm water over your muslin cloth (also available in our Shop), and sweep over face and neck to remove cleanser, dirt, grime, and oil. Once cleanser is fully removed, splash face with cool water.

My thoughts

At first I wasn’t impressed with this at all.  I thought it cleaned terribly.

Then I decided I must be a dummy since everyone in the beauty world is into this.  So I read the instructions again and modified my routine.

Once I started to really working the cleanser into my skin and then using the muslin cloth with hotter water, I was hooked.

I feel like it gets my skin cleaner than an average cleanser without being drying.  The muslin cloth also helps to exfoliate your skin in the process.

Could the muslin cloth work with another creamy cleaner? Yeah, probably, but this cleanser is really quite good.

Would I buy?

Yes. I think this will be amazing in the winter to combat any dryness.

Have you tried Liz Earle? Are you a fan?

Review – Glytone salicylic acid toner

3 Mar

Ever since I sampled the Proactiv Fading Pads, I’ve been on a quest to find a comparable product that I didn’t have purchase a whole kit to use.

Here is what I thought about the Proactiv.

I started to look for products that have a 2% salicylic acid component like the Fading Pads.  One of the products I found is the Glytone Toner.  You can get this on Amazon and from med spas.

wpid-20140217_135520.jpg

Ingredients – 2% Salicylic acid., Acetone, benzalkonium chloride, fragrance (Parfum), isopropyl alcohol, polysorbate 20, Red 40 (CI 16035), Water (Aqua), Yellow 5 (CI 19140).

Like the Proactiv, this is marketed toward the acne treatment customers.

I am interested in the skin renewing properties that come along with salicylic acid use.

What do I think of the Glytone Toner?

I think I wish it didn’t have acetone and rubbing alcohol as the ingredients.  These are both drying agents, and I’m not really sure what else they do.  Oh yeah, they smell.

Do I think this is on par with the Fading Pads?  Not quite.

I guess it is keeping my skin clear and pores small, but I’m not getting the glowing and the “wow” that I got from Proactiv Fading Pads.

This can be drying and can sting a lot with over use.  Start with one application a day and then move to twice if you prefer.

Will I repurchase?

I will probably look for another alternative first.  If there is nothing else, then I may.

New Purchase! Sabon Body Scrub!!

27 Feb

Last week during a mall trip, I was talked into an expensive body scrub from Sabon.

Because, why not?  $33.00 USD is totally reasonable for oil and salt, no? Want it?  Click here.

wpid-20140219_213235.jpg

Ok, I will admit, I am also a sucker for jasmine and this smells oh so divine.

Here is a list of ingredients:

wpid-20140219_213302.jpg

Their claim?  After you use this scrub, your skin is so moisturized that you don’t need to lotion.

And you know what?  Yeah, that’s kinda true.

This was my first experience with this store and brand.  They also have a line of skin care and soaps.  I am curious about their face masks!

Have you tried a Sabon product?

Ipsy Glam Bag January 2014!

20 Jan

Woohooo!  First Glam Bag of the year and filled with some exciting things.  PS.  I took these pictures on my floor and I realized I have the world’s most boring carpet color!  ick

wpid-20140120_093139.jpg

The things I am most excited about – The Proactiv+ Mark Fading Pads.  These are 2% salicylic acid which is so great for treating acne and cell turnover.   I always seem to find it in acne medication, so I was psyched to see this.  Used one of these already and will do a full review.  Sorry, I can’t link to the product because I can’t see it on their website.

wpid-20140120_093305.jpg

Épicé Purifying Exfoliant retails for $32 for 3.3 oz.  This is the most expensive product in the bag.  I received a 1 oz sample, so about $10.00 worth of product.  I already used this and will review it soon.

wpid-20140120_093247.jpg

Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Tri-Wheat Leave In Conditioner.  I love hair products.  yay!

wpid-20140120_093212.jpg

Mica Lip Tinted Balm in Natural.  Pretty color, and it will great on my mom.  So I will be giving it to her.

wpid-20140120_093237.jpg

Smooth Shadow from Elizabeth Mott in Pearl.  This is a highlighter, eyeliner and waterline liner. I’m excited to use this on my waterline.  Putting flesh colored or white liners in the waterline make your eyes appear bigger.  This is a big deal for me since I wear glasses.

wpid-20140120_093406.jpg

Protip-Glasses for nearsighted correction make your eyes look smaller.  Waterline lining with light or white pencils counters this illusion.  Make your eyes pop, girl!

Keep your peepers peeled for the full reviews on these goodies.

December 2013 Empties Post

10 Jan

Here are the goodies I used up in December!

wpid-Collage-1388959210691.jpg wpid-Collage-1388958106957.jpg

1) Skintimate Shave Lotion – this is saving my skin from over drying. Yes, repurchased

2) L’Oreal Eye Make-Up Remover.  This burned my eyes.  Won’t be repurchasing.

3) Bath and Body Works Dark Kiss Body Mist. It was okay, but not my fave scent.

4)Wild Ferns Manuka Honey Night Revival Cream.  THIS IS MY HOLY GRAIL.  In love. We reviewed it before here.

5)DermOrganic Conditioner.  This was okay. May or may not repurchase. Right now I am using a Matrix Conditioner that I am really liking…so yeah.  OK, probably won’t repurchase…there just made up my mind.

6)Jonathan Volumizing Conditioner.  This stuff was the devil, will not be purchasing it again.  And because I am weirdly stubborn and OCD, I had to use the entire bottle and hated it.  Obviously, I have problems HA.

7)Glycolix Elite Facial Cream 20 Percent. Another HG product for me.  My Med Spa friend turned me on to this, and I am hooked.  Get it.  You will be 40 and you will look amazing. Duh, of course repurchase.

8)Maybelline Colossal Volume Mascara.  I liked this, for a drugstore mascara.  Cover Girl is one my faves, but this may be a repurchase.  Especially if on sale. I like sales.

9)Smashbox Primer sample .  I’ve bought this before, and I have a sneaking suspicion this breaks me out. It’s never terrible, just a little small blemish here or there.  I don’t buy this anymore, I stick with the Monistat.  What? yeah. here.

10) Luxe Repair Sample from Julep.  Face oil, meh.  Not impressed.

11) Pravana Vivid Red – yes, Staple. I make my own color depositing conditioner. Interested?

12)Look Better Naked from Soap and Glory.  OMG this smelled soooo divine.  Yes, I will be buying this.

Review – Clearasil Daily Clear® Refreshing Superfruit Wash

16 Dec

I received a sample of this from Clearasil a while back, and liked it so much I bought a full size bottle.

wpid-PhotoGrid_1386966480270.jpg

As you can see, I have put a good dent in it with regular use.

I personally really like drugstore cleansers.  I don’t think you need to spend major bucks on a cleanser, I think  better investments are creams and treatments.

Kassi’s and I could not have the most different skin.  This probably works well for the blog though 🙂  You lovelies get to read the woes of two very different girls.

My skin issues are that: 1) it’s crazy combination  – really oily on my forehead and really dry on cheeks and nose.  So dry it peels.  So I  exfoliate a lot. 2) I get blackheads and clogged pores really easily.  Dirt just likes me, yo.

So I look for cleansers that get rid of the gunk on a deeper level, especially on my nose.

Clearasil Daily Clear® Refreshing Superfruit Wash has been really good to my skin.  I was afraid it would be overly drying as the weather gets colder, but that is not the case. My skin still feels comfortable after a cleansing.  It also helps with keeping my nose free of blackheads.  I LIKE THIS A LOT.

I don’t repurchase cleansers super often because I am always searching for something new and/or better.   However, this may be the exception.  I am happy that it is still working for me through 2 different Seasons.   Normally, I can’t use the same product in summer that I do in winter.

HG?  Maybe!

Juice Beauty – Green Apple Peel for Sensitive Skin

11 Sep

I just received a sample this in my BirchBox yesterday and I really like it.

Image

I have been afraid of peels for a long time because I have sensitive skin and most of them just turn my skin red.  I once has red raccoon eyes from one in high school and begged my mom not to make me go to school.

I used the Green Apple Peel last night and my skin looks and feels amazing today!  It says to use it 1-2 times a week but I am having trouble waiting.

I experienced no redness, tightness or itchiness.
