Ipsy Glam Bag January 2014!

20 Jan

Woohooo!  First Glam Bag of the year and filled with some exciting things.  PS.  I took these pictures on my floor and I realized I have the world’s most boring carpet color!  ick

The things I am most excited about – The Proactiv+ Mark Fading Pads.  These are 2% salicylic acid which is so great for treating acne and cell turnover.   I always seem to find it in acne medication, so I was psyched to see this.  Used one of these already and will do a full review.  Sorry, I can’t link to the product because I can’t see it on their website.

Épicé Purifying Exfoliant retails for $32 for 3.3 oz.  This is the most expensive product in the bag.  I received a 1 oz sample, so about $10.00 worth of product.  I already used this and will review it soon.

Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Tri-Wheat Leave In Conditioner.  I love hair products.  yay!

wpid-20140120_093212.jpg

Mica Lip Tinted Balm in Natural.  Pretty color, and it will great on my mom.  So I will be giving it to her.

Smooth Shadow from Elizabeth Mott in Pearl.  This is a highlighter, eyeliner and waterline liner. I’m excited to use this on my waterline.  Putting flesh colored or white liners in the waterline make your eyes appear bigger.  This is a big deal for me since I wear glasses.

Protip-Glasses for nearsighted correction make your eyes look smaller.  Waterline lining with light or white pencils counters this illusion.  Make your eyes pop, girl!

Keep your peepers peeled for the full reviews on these goodies.

RUMOR ALERT – UD Naked 3 Palette

5 Nov

According to someone on Reddit there are rumors going around about an new Naked palette!

Here are the leaked photos:

this could be a complete hoax – these photos were found via an Instagram user.  Some of these colors look exactly the same as shades from the Naked and Naked 2 palettes.

Urban Decay has yet to confirm or deny.

NYX The Natural Shadow Palette – Looks and Review

31 Oct

We’re  fans of NYX here at Fairy Godmother.   We have also been actively searching for a suitable dupe for the Urban Decay Naked Palettes.

UD is pretty amazing with great colors, so this quest hasn’t been easy.

However, in our quest we have have found some great products.  One of these is the NYX Natural Shadow Palette.  It’s a scaled down version of the Nakeds, sort of reminds me of Naked Basics.

NYX is $7.00

Urban Decay is $27.00

I wore this on separate occasions this week.  I also wanted to show how well and long this wears through the day.  I used the NYX HD Eye Shadow Base in addition to the eye shadows.

AMPM

Fun fact – I never realized how more tired my eyes look in the PM after a full day of office work.  Bleah.

This was a smokier look.  I also did a more neutral look:

My thoughts –

If you are looking for a natural/neutral eye shadow palette, take a chance on NYX.  The shadows wear very well and long, the pigment and color payoff is great, they blend great with the exception of one of the shades.  The first and lightest shade comes out a bit chalky on me.

Also, it’s $7.00

Review: NYX Single Eye Shadow in Lanikai

18 Oct

NYX Single Eye Shadow in Lanikai was in my September Ipsy Glam Bag.

There is probably no way in the world would I have picked this out myself.  It looks crazy blue, right?!

It’s slightly more subdued in person.

Although this is blue, it is surprisingly wearable.  Check it.

On my skin, it is like a greyish blue.  I actually wore it to work today, and it doesn’t look too insane.

I’m wearing the Elizabeth Mott It’s So Big Mascara.

My review:

Good pigmentation

Good staying power

Good blendability

Would repurchase 🙂

Also, check out my faux side swept bang look.

Review! Starlooks Obsidian Kohl Eye Pencil

19 Sep

Thank you Ipsy Glam Bag for September 2013!

I received a Starlooks lip liner in a previous Glam Bag, and I was happy with it.  It was smooth and creamy, and didn’t chalk or flake.

BUT, eye liner is a whole different ball game.  And I was hoping that the Starlooks Obsidian Kohl Eye Pencil would live up to the high standards of its lip liner cousin.

$12.00 USD

From Starlooks:

Dramatically emphasize your eyes with Starlooks’ intensely-pigmented Kohl Eye pencils! These ultra-soft liners glide across delicate lids without pulling. Try a smokey effect by blending outwards with a fluffy brush! Each extremely creamy Kohl Liner can also be used as a base on the entire lid. Impossible to choose between 10 stunning and super saturated shades!

My review:

This is a really nice dark rich black.  It lives up to every promise the company makes!  It’s smooth, it’s soft, and it lasts.

I tried to smudge it with a fluffy brush as Starlooks advises and it came out really nice!  Check it out:

This is a corporate work look, so I did’t go very heavy.  I used the Obsidian Kohl Eye Pencil on the top and bottom lids.

I’m also wearing a light pink eye shadow on the lids.

I’ve work it without eye shadow as well, and with my NYX HD Primer it stays on pretty well.  However, the eye shadow holds in in place a bit better.  BUT, I have really oily eye lids.  If you are not me, this probably wouldn’t be an issue for you.

I was hoping they carry the liner in purple, but no luck.

If this was the last crayon eye liner I could ever purchase, I would be very happy 🙂

What’s your favorite eye liner?

NYX – The Curve review

15 Sep

Last week I bought this enticing liquid eyeliner from NYX called The Curve.  It retails at $14.99 at Ulta, Target and online.

Image

Description: The Curve Liner in Jet Black by NYX has an innovative, ergonomic shape that makes applying liquid liner mistake-proof. The grip zone provides just the right hold to make application precise, secure and best of all…effortless
What it promises to do: Provides an ergonomic shape for optimal holding and easy application. Suitable for right and left handed application with universal shape. Skinny tip for precision lining. Excellent color pay-off. Quick drying, smudge proof, no feathering, no skipping, no running, paraben free.

How it holds up: Overall I really like this eyeliner but don’t actually think the shape helps that much – maybe if you are completely new to liquid liners.  [I was a teenage goth, so I like to think I’m a pro.  :)] It does smear if you rub it, so just don’t rub it.  I gave it the Disco Nap test and I still had it on when I was ready to go out, so it did have the lasting power it promised.  I made sure to apply NYX HD Eyeshadow Primer first thought.  It’s good but its not $15 good.  You can get the same pay off other drug store liners, so unless you have a coupon I wouldn’t spend the extra money on The Curve.

I disagree with the NYX eyeshadow Primer they pictured.  Get the HD one, it’s the same price and it works WAY better.

Do you disagree that any of these products work well?  We are interested in that growth shampoo, that seems too good to be true!

As you know we think Nailtiques is the holy grail of nail growth.
