Review – Dr Brandt Microdermabrasion

16 May

I received a sample of the Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion in my Ipsy in April.  I realized that I never posted my April goodies, SO SORRY!!!

However, I loved this so much I needed to tell you lovelies.

The sample lasted me a few uses.  I thought this was so phenomenal, I ordered a full size after the first use.

Why I love it –

This says that is mimics a salon/spa microdermabrasion and it really does.  I have never felt anything remotely close to a professional micro before this.  I  was sold, immediately.

If you have never had a professional microdermabrasion, expect to feel like there are a million little rocks/ crystals/diamond flakes scrubbing your face.   It doesn’t sting while you are doing it, but it doesn’t feel good.

Your face will be tender afterwards.  It can be red.  It can sting when you apply another product after, especially if it is anything “anti-aging”.

I use it twice a week like the company suggests, and I am loving the results.

SO MUCH CHEAPER than a salon/spa service.

Go get you some!

Dupe War #9 Beautyblender vs Perfectionist vs Flawless Beaute Makeup Blenders!

27 Aug

This one is probably more of a battle royale. What we are comparing is the original Beautyblender and The Sephora Perfectionist to the Flawless Beaute Makeup Blender Sponge Sample Pack.

A few weeks ago, a charming gal from Beauty Junkees emailed us at Fairy God Mother and asked if we would be interested in reviewing the makeup sponges she is selling. We love make up applicators, and I am especially obsessed with the new sponge craze, so of course we said yes.

Full disclaimer – we didn’t purchase this product, but nevertheless we have conducted an unbiased review.

What they are: Makeup Sponges Set Includes 4 Unique Shaped Blender Makeup Sponges:

Pink Teardrop (Egg), Purple Pear, Green Spade, Blue Sculptor

Same Quality as Expensive Beauty Blenders at 1/2 the Price Highest Quality Material: Vitamin E Infused, Latex Free, Non Allergenic, Odor Free, Smooth Suede Texture

What they do:

Creates an amazing even, natural flawless finish that is difficult to achieve with other makeup sponges, brushes or fingers Works with all makeup, including creams, liquids, minerals, and powders; does not soak up excessive amounts of product like other sponges

Our review: I will admit, I was way impressed. I love the original Beautyblender, but I don’t love the price tag. I really like the Sephora Perfectionist, the price was better.

But I love Flawless Beaute even more and my wallet will love it and thank me. And then I will buy more makeup with the money I will save.

Here is why: You are getting 4 really high quality sponges in different shapes. BIG BENEFIT – you can play with the different sponges and figure out which is your favorite. There are subtle differences in each shape, so you will most likely like one or two more than the rest.

There is no difference in the application and result between any of these brands. You are still getting a really beautiful flawless finish regardless of brand name and price. So if the result is virtually the same, why the heck would you spend more $$$? Makes no sense. Unless you are a trust fund baby, in which case you are not reading our blog anyway. 😉

I was intrigued by the flat sponge, and quickly figured out it was a surprise favorite. I really like it for the stipple effect of blending in my CC cream.

Flawless Beaute Blue Sculptor

I think this sponge would work really well with a cream blush! I normally hate cream blushes because I can never get them to blend correctly, but I’m considering getting one just to use with this sponge.

I love any of the tipped ones for concealer, and I love blending foundation with the two tear drops. I used them all wet with liquid foundations, cream concealers, and cc creams. Pretty face achieved! Boom!

         Flawless Beaute Purple Pear

The differences: There are No differences in the application result. The Beautyblender is the only one of these sponges I have tried that actually feels different. The sponge is spongier, springier. But this is an aesthetic difference, it doesn’t affect how your make up looks.

The math: Dollar to Dollar, check this out. Beautyblender – $19.95, Sephora – $12.00, Flawless Beaute Makeup Blender Sponge Sample Pack of 4 (FOUR!!!!!) $29.97. This comes out to just under $7.50 per sponge.

So seriously, go get you some of these sponges!

Also, Beauty Junkees are giving away a set of these amazing goodies to one lucky winner.  Click here to enter contest!  The winner will be notified by us, and the prize will be shipped by Beauty Junkees.

Good luck!!!!

Dupe war #1 – Makeup ForeverHD Microfinish Powder vs Silica Spheres

28 Mar

We love saving money, I mean, who doesn’t?  Especially if you can get a quality product that performs just as well as the expensive ones.

Original – Makeup Forever HD Microfinish Powder .3oz for $34

What it is:
Translucent finishing powder to be applied over foundation or worn alone.

What it does:
Finishing powder sets the foundation and slightly mattifies skin without changing its natural contours. Made of 100 percent-mineral silica, it softens the appearance of imperfections, fine lines, and pores and completely evens out the complexion for a glowing, radiant look. (i stole this text from Sephora.com)

The Dupe:  Silica Powder Spheres from Coastal Scents 1oz for $3.75
