Growing out hair and how to not look lame

4 Jan

I’m growing out my hair again, because I seem to have developed commitment issues with hair length.  Short, Long, Extensions, Go crazy and cut it off.

Here are some fun hair dos I found, including my own braid headband!

sorry for my naked face 🙂  I was lazy and all I did was fill in my brows super dark and wear a bit of lipstick.

Thanks for reading!!

Review-Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo

27 May

IMG_3267

I owned this a few years ago.  I didn’t remember if I loved it or hated it, but I need some in a pinch and this was a travel size for cheap.

Oh, Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo, you are not great.

I’m relieved it was only $2.99 at my local CVS.

What do we expect from a dry shampoo in this day and age?  We expect it to not leave residue, we expect it to absorb some oil, we expect it to give your hair new life, to give it body, to make your hair look good.  With dry shampoo, you should be getting 2 or 3 days out of your hair before you need to shampoo. This may differ based on your location (if you are in Florida, this won’t work because I have been to Florida and child, IT IS HOT) and on your level of physical activity.

My thoughts on Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Refreshing Dry Shampoo:

Pros –

It smells okay

Cons-

It leaves residue. Not super white, like others can, but the particles sit on top of the hair.

It doesn’t really absorb oil.  I’m pretty sure this goes along with it leaving residue.  It doesn’t disappear because it doesn’t absorb oil.

It weighs down hair.  Major bummer.

I felt it made my hair look greasier than before I used it.  HUGE disappointment.  I ended up washing my hair immediately after spraying some at my roots.  Sort of defeated the purpose of it all together.

Will I repurchase?

No, not again. And if your mother is smart, she isn’t using this either.

No more hair extensions

16 May

I missed blogging and realized it has been way too long since I’ve done it.  I hope to get back to in on a regular basis.  Please be patient while I work this into my regular schedule again.

Also, what kinds of posts does everyone like read?  Send me your comments!

Now, going back to the original point of this post – HAIR.

About 2 months ago, I took out my amazing hair extensions.  Oh, I and chopped my hair in the process.

So I went from this –

To this –

It was a huge change.  We also did a color melt from dark to red.  This helps me not have a root line in between color appointments.

Why did I remove my extensions?  As much as I loved how they looked, I needed a break from the upkeep and daily maintenance.  I missed being able to scrub my head well.  And I started to dislike the tapes.

Would I get them again?  Yes and at some point I will.  I am really enjoying my own hair right now.

Treat yourself – hair extensions

6 Aug

For my birthday this year, I treated myself to hair extensions!  It’s a huge investment, but I always felt like my hair was thin and wanted to feel better about myself.

My friend is a hair dresser, so she is the one who worked on me.  We added some length and we added some volume.  And bam!  I had mermaid hair.

Okay, so what are these?

These are Hotheads brand hair extensions. Check them out Hotheads.  They are 100% human hair.  They come in different colors and if you have a funky color job like me, you will have to dye them to match.

Expect to pay about $300 just for the hair alone.  The cost of chemical process and application will be extra and will vary based on the salon.

Do I love them?

UM YES.  I love having extensions.  They take a little bit getting used to since they pull on the hair a bit, but after a few days you won’t notice.  They also itch at the hairline from time to time.

Expect some natural shedding from these.  So although your hair is super thick during the first few weeks, it will thin out as the extensions lose their hair.

You can reuse the same hair 3 times, and you get about 10 weeks of wear after each application.  So, every 10 weeks the hair is removed and reapplied.  You will get about 6 months of wear out of your hair before you need to repurchase.

The hair is removed using an alcohol based remover.

One huge adjustment to my daily hair care – you cannot use anything containing alcohol on your hair near the extension bonds.  They will dissolve and you may be coming into a salon for an emergency application.

Hotheads brand shampoo and conditioner was recommended and I do use them.

I may try a different brand of hair extensions next time which has less shedding.

What do you guys think??

If you are in the Chicagoland area and are interested in these, look up my girl Elyse.  She is in Schaumburg, IL. Like her on facebook: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Elyses-Hair-and-Color-Studio/264608790535

Treat your hair right, get The Wet Brush

8 Aug

If you “Like” us on Facebook, you probably saw Kassi post about The Wet Brush last week.  Our hair stylist friend saw and immediately recommended the miracle brush to us!

Then she got me one.

This little gem is super inexpensive at $8.99!

The Wet Brush has really flexible metal bristles that glide through your hair effortlessly.  You can use wet or dry, and it gets the tangles out easily.  It has replaced my two pick and my brush.

The bristles are longer than any other brushes I’ve had, and they sort of massage your scalp as you brush your hair.

Massaging your scalp helps to circulate the blood in your scalp and makes your hair grow faster :-)  Who doesn’t want that?

It comes in so many fun colors!!!!

Have you tried The Wet Brush?
