Julep November 2013 Maven Box

8 Nov

Here is my latest Julep box.  I need to admit that as much as I enjoy Julep, I am considering cancelling the monthly subscription.   At this point I have more nail polish bottles than I can probably use in a life time.

I wish there was an option to temporarily suspend the service instead of opting to skip every month or cancelling.  I don’t receive the monthly email from Julep letting me know my box was ready and this is the time to place it on hold or send to someone one.  And I keep track of way too many things in my life to add one more thing I need to worry about…so yeah…I am cancel.  Let me know of other beauty boxes that are on the market.  I already get Ipsy and Kassi gets Birchbox.

I love the color of that lip gloss!  Prefect berry for Fall/Winter.

October 2013 Empties Post

16 Oct

Last time I did one of these was back in August, and I accumulated a ton of empties since then.  I probably waited too long to do this, but oh well…maybe I can try to do an Empties Post once a month.

Since there are so many, I’m not going to make a lot of comments about these products unless I wouldn’t repurchase for some reason or I really loved them.

See?  There is a  ton of stuff!!

These are both very similar to the Smashbox Face Primer.  I actually prefer the Sephora brand to the Hourglass.  Hourglass is white and blends, Sephora is clear.

The E.L.F. setting spray is a staple in my collection.

I would not repurchase this liquid eyeliner.  It didn’t stay on me AT ALL.  I looked like I cried…a lot.

2013-10-15 00.24.33

I would not repurchase this Boots Expert Instant Matte.  I thought it may have been a good dupe for Clinique’s T-Zone which was discontinued (TRAGIC).  It fell VERY SHORT of my expectations.

I’m so in love with these glosses.

The best blotting paper you can get for a $1.00 USD.

If you have any questions about any of these, let me know and I will be happy to share my humble opinion 🙂

Review: Cailyn Cosmetics Tinted Lip Balm

14 Oct

September Ipsy Glam Bag brought to me Cailyn Cosmetics Tinted Lip Balm in Big Apple.  This is a delicious true red.

20131013_185741 2013-10-13 19.02.01

I wore it without lip liner to keep the color true for the pic.

This is not the most moisturizing and I think the name “balm” is a bit misleading, but it is long lasting.

It may be less drying if worn over a lip balm.

I will say, I’m officially IN LOVE with Cailyn.  And Ipsy for continuously feeding my addiction.

Review: MicaBeauty Mineral Eyeshadow!!!

18 Sep

I received the MicaBeauty Mineral Eyeshadow in Bronze in my August Ipsy Glam Bag. I mean when I say this was my favorite Glam Bag since I became a subscriber in June.  I have loved everything in it!

2013-09-18 07.52.19 2013-09-18 07.47.21

What it does:

MicaBeauty Mineral Eyeshadows are extremely gentle, free of preservatives, chemicals, dyes, talc, oils, and other fillers. With this unique formula, the eyeshadows will look ultra smooth and stay put for hours without creasing or pulling the delicate eye area. Can be mixed with clear lip-gloss, clear mascara, and clear nail polish to add pigment to lips, eyelashes and nails!

My review:

I am a fan of mineral shadows, so I was excited to receive this one.  They are natural and chemical free!!!! I normally get them from Etsy and sadly the quality really varies.

I was curious how my Etsy finds would hold up next to a larger line.

I used it with my NYX HD Primer and NYX Natural Pallette.  I like to put on a base of a light shadow before i apply any minerals.  I feel like that helps to adhere it better to my eye lids and also makes the color pop more.

I was surprised how much color pay off this gave me.  The best I have experienced to date!!!  (And I have a small army of mineral shadows in my collection)

The color isn’t super shimmery and it can easily be worn to work if applied with a light hand.  As you can see from the pictures above, it really is very light on the skin.  It looks a lot darker in the pot than when applied.  However, it builds well so you can go darker.  It also works well over a darker shadow to add extra dimension.

It lasted all night, and the color didn’t fade.

These retail for $14.95 USD, so they are not super cheap but aren’t super expensive.   If you’ve never used mineral shadows before, these will last you a while.

I wish they had more colors in their collection!!  They do however have couple of pinks and a green I like.  I’m also curious about using them on the lips to add more dimension.  This is where the pinks would come in handy.

Sidenote to Kassi – you may be really interested in this one.

Go get you some, girl!

Review! Ipsy Glam Bag July

7 Aug

This is way late, and I’m super sorry!!!!!!!

July’s theme was beach, baby, beach!

ipsy2

I’ve loved each makeup bag Ipsy has sent me, and this one is no exception.  It would be a perfect vacation or beach kit.

Anywayzzzz, on to the swag:

Ipsy5

Pop Beauty Pouty Pop Crayon in Fushcia Flirt $16 (maybe??)  The products individually aren’t on their website.  It’s $25.00 for a kit of minis.  This looks like a full size product.

I’m not super into this product.  The color isn’t awesome for me.  I use it as my morning lipstick during the work week.  It’s very purple/pink, and it may not transition easily into a fall makeup look.  It’s okay, but it’s not a love.

Also, I prefer the textures of Mirenesse glosses way better than Pop.

Ipsy4

Coola Mineral Face SPF 20 Moisturizer Sample.   Full size is $36.00

I haven’t used this yet!  I haven’t been in the sun too much, and I’ve been loving my Juice Beauty CC with SPF  SO MUCH.  I don’t want to change right now.

IPsy3  Ipsy1

BH California Collection Sample.  Full size retails for 8.95

I haven’t used this either!  Gahhhhhh I’m a makeup failure.  The colors look really nice, and I love the California theme.  Hollywood is a gorgeous purple.

Ipsy6

Big Sexy Hair Travel Size.  I love this hair spray, so I was super excited to receive it.

I like having a travel size in my car, just in case your hair needs a refresher.

Demeter Salt Hair Perfume Oil Roll $10.00

This is my favorite item from this month’s Glam Bag.  I love perfume oils, and I know they are not for everyone, but I was really excited to see this was an oil.  I didn’t know Demeter even made oils.  yay!

This really does smell light, summery, and beachy.  Sort of reminds me of the beach early in the morning.  On a resort.  In Mexico.  BEST.

This is my daily day scent.  I replaced my previous Ipsy find from Pacifica with this Demeter fragrance.  Demeter doesn’t have the best holding power, so I do reapply a few times a day.  But, who cares?!  It smells good.  And if I want a moment to myself, I’m taking it. 🙂

This was not the best Glam Bag for me.  I haven’t even tried two of the products.  Maybe I will do separate reviews of them once I get around to using them.  I guess I should get moving on sunscreen.  Summer is almost over in Chicago….why??????

Have you tried any of these products?  What did you think?

July Faves – Mirenesse Glossy Kiss

2 Aug

Two of my lovely friends (one is our own Kassi)  are Birchbox subscribers.  They both received a lip/cheek gloss from Mirenesse and neither of them liked their colors.  I was lucky to have received these wonderful hand me downs 🙂

glossy-kiss-3g

I’m also lucky that I love these two colors. Top color is number 2, Flirty Kiss, bottom color is number 14, Prefect Kiss.    Perfect Kiss is not available on their website right now.

Gloss

These are highly pigmented for a gloss and have good staying power.  I was particularly impressed with the red.  It’s deep red, and stains similar to a lipstick.  But, it’s super soft and moisturizing.  AND not sticky.

This was my first time trying this line, and based on these two colors I’m likely to purchase more.

NYX Love Continues and Possible Naked Dupe?

8 Jul

I went to Ulta, got a cutetastic headband that Kassi already posted, and got a NYX palette.

Natural

I am freaking impressed with NYX lately.  I love the blush I got in my Ipsy June Glam Bag.  And I love these shadows!!!   BTW, I’m wearing them in this photo. https://yourfairygodmothers.files.wordpress.com/2013/07/photo-5.jpg

They are super blendable and a good selection of the neutral colors.  Sure, you’re getting 6 colors to the Urban Decay’s 12, but for a fraction of the cost.

That dark brown, is delicious.  I want to marry it.

Go get  you some!

May 2013 BirchBox Review

24 May

ImageI got my first Birch Box yesterday.  It was fun but also a little disappointing compared to the Ipsy that Anna received as she got FULL SIZED products.  <READ ABOUT IT HERE>

I unwrapped my cute little box to discover:

Image

Hair Masque, sunscreen, toothpaste, eyeliner and 4 tea bags.  Kind of boring.  I didn’t think I filled out the “send me some boring crap” profile.  I said I was edgy and loved makeup!  BIRCHBOX HALP.

So I am going to try it again next month and give them another chance.  Right now I don’t feel like I got my $10 worth.  Although I haven’t tried any of the products – aside from the tea, which is actually quite tasty but I wanted lip gloss or something to slather on my face.

As a side note – many of these sample sized products would be good to take on vacation.
