October Empties 2 – I use a lot of stuff!

5 Nov

2013-11-02 17.41.02

Just so I can be like everyone else in the beauty blogging world, I’m going to do an Empties post monthly.  Here are the things I used up in October.

Picture1

I had to Google to check if Benefit even still makes Maybe Baby perfume…and they do!  It used to be one of my absolute favorites.  So light and floral.  I finally finished this bottle I’ve had for ages, and I’m thinking I want to repurchase.

Ponds – meh…Some people are crazy in love with this.  I couldn’t use it as a  cleanser, and yes I tried the hot wet towel trick.  I would sometimes use it as eye make up remover.  But I don’t think I will repurchase this for the third time. I still have one pot of it at my parents’ house that I use.

Clean and Clear Advantage Acne Spot is so good on the blackheads on my nose. It does dry me out after a few uses, so I won’t repurchase for the Winter.  We’ll see how my skin behaves come Spring.

Maybelline Mastershape was not a win for me.   The color was Auburn, but it was super light, and I couldn’t get it to blend with my black eye brows.

They’re Real by Benefit is one of my favorites right now.  I have a second trial size, and will probably buy a full size in time.

Picture2

Matrix Vavoom is amazing.  One of my favorite hairsprays.

Bio Silk smells so great, and I like both the shampoo and conditioner.  I frequently repurchase both.

Got2B 4ever Stylestay is great for updos or for spraying your hair while wearing it back.  It is a stiff hold.

Picture3

I’m finally retiring my Sephora Perfectionist Sponge. We reviewed a lot of sponges here and here.  This is still one of my favorites.

Bath and Body Words body lotion in Pink Chiffon.  It smells like flowers and candy to me.  I kept this in my purse, and B&BW makes such great lotions.  These always get repurchased.

So that’s it for October!

What were some of your favorites or non fave items?

Review – They’re Real! Mascara by Benefit

29 Oct

I’ve been liking this Mascara since May.  I received a sample in my Sephora Birthday Gift and in September I received another sample  at the LashBash.

2013-10-29 09.44.45

They’re Real! gives you huge lashes.  Check out the evidence here:

Naked eye:

Wimpy lashes….to…

Boom!

2013-10-29 09.47.28

2013-10-29 09.45.53

The formula wears well and it doesn’t smear.  It does get a bit clumpy when you are nearing the end of the tube.  The brush is plastic with plastic hard bristles that can sometimes scratch your eyelid.   Or that’s just my issue.

Have you tried They’re Real!?

Review: NYX Single Eye Shadow in Lanikai

18 Oct

NYX Single Eye Shadow in Lanikai was in my September Ipsy Glam Bag.

656

There is probably no way in the world would I have picked this out myself.  It looks crazy blue, right?!

2013-10-17 14.59.28 2013-10-17 15.15.17

It’s slightly more subdued in person.

Although this is blue, it is surprisingly wearable.  Check it.

2013-10-17 15.13.08 20131016_192149

On my skin, it is like a greyish blue.  I actually wore it to work today, and it doesn’t look too insane.

I’m wearing the Elizabeth Mott It’s So Big Mascara.

My review:

Good pigmentation

Good staying power

Good blendability

Would repurchase 🙂

Also, check out my faux side swept bang look.

Review: Elizabeth Mott It’s So Big Volumizing Mascara

17 Oct

Good Afternoon, Lovelies!

This little find was in my September Ipsy Glam Bag.  I’ve been so lucky to receive a mascara sample almost every month since July.  I will not be low on mascara for a while.

As always, I must put out the disclaimer that my eyelids are super oily.  Mascara usually runs and smears when I wear it.  Sometimes this happens with waterproof versions.  But sometimes I’m surprised.  Pixi was a good surprise and so is the Elizabeth Mott It’s So Big Volumizing Mascara.

My review:

This has amazing staying power.  But it comes off easily…no tugging or pulling.

I LOVE that this is a cruelty free product.

And I love that it makes my lashes look like this:

2013-10-16 12.13.39 2013-10-16 12.15.52

I haven’t purchased anything from my Ipsy samples yet, and this is going to be my first.  I like it this much.  I will even pay $20.00 for it, I DON’T CARE.

I don’t have to worry that my mascara is smudged during my work hours, I am confident I don’ t look like a hot mess.   My l ashes aren’t sticky or spikey, or weird. AND I didn’t have to kill a bunny to look cute.

Also, it is super build-able!

It does sort of evaporate after 12 hours, sort of like MAC’s used to.  However, I was able to reapply without issues.

Have you tried this mascara yet?  What is your absolute max $ you are willing to spend for mascara?

Sidenote- I lined my eyes with the Cailyn Gel Liner I reviewed here https://fairygodmotherbeautyblog.com/2013/07/02/review-june-ipsy-box/#more-1248

October 2013 Empties Post

16 Oct

Last time I did one of these was back in August, and I accumulated a ton of empties since then.  I probably waited too long to do this, but oh well…maybe I can try to do an Empties Post once a month.

Since there are so many, I’m not going to make a lot of comments about these products unless I wouldn’t repurchase for some reason or I really loved them.

See?  There is a  ton of stuff!!

These are both very similar to the Smashbox Face Primer.  I actually prefer the Sephora brand to the Hourglass.  Hourglass is white and blends, Sephora is clear.

2013-10-15 00.36.27

The E.L.F. setting spray is a staple in my collection.

2013-10-15 00.23.53

I would not repurchase this liquid eyeliner.  It didn’t stay on me AT ALL.  I looked like I cried…a lot.

2013-10-15 00.24.33

I would not repurchase this Boots Expert Instant Matte.  I thought it may have been a good dupe for Clinique’s T-Zone which was discontinued (TRAGIC).  It fell VERY SHORT of my expectations.

One of my fave mascaras.  OF COURSE I will repurchase this 🙂

I’m so in love with these glosses.

2013-10-15 00.32.41

Our V-Primer 🙂

The best blotting paper you can get for a $1.00 USD.

If you have any questions about any of these, let me know and I will be happy to share my humble opinion 🙂

Review: Pixi Lash Booster Mascara

12 Sep

The Pixi Lash Booster Mascara was in my August 2013 Ipsy Glam Bag.

From Pixi:

What it is formulated to do:

This unique mascara truly boosts your lashes, giving them a “push-up” effect that lasts all day. The dense, rich formula ensures that lashes are coated with maximum pigment, for long-lasting full colour. The cone-shaped brush coats each lash evenly for the ultimate smudge-free, waterproof lash & eye definition. Available in intense eye-opening shades, including the revolutionary “blackest blue” that awakens the eyes and makes the whites of the eyes appear whiter.

Beneficial ingredients and what they do:

  • Vitamin E nourishes skin Carnauba wax is naturally emollient
  • Microcrystalline wax nourishes & ensures easy application
  • Simethicone provides a smooth glide

My review :

WOW, is this thing waterproof.  As you may know I have grossly greasy eyelids and most mascaras smudge on me, which is why I favor the waterproof formulas.

At first, I didn’t know this was a waterproof formula, but I was surprised that it didn’t budge all day.  WIN.  Also, it is less waxy than other waterproof mascaras.  This is another reason why I didn’t realize it was.

My lashes are curly and hardly fall, so I can’t really speak to it’s ability to hold a curl, especially if you have straight lashes.  I can say that the formula is really light, so it didn’t weight my lashes down.

I wasn’t able to get a lot of volume with this, but this is not a volumizing formula.  If you want big lashes, go talk to Benefit or MAC.

Overall, this is a great mascara for every day wear.  It doesn’t clump, smear, smudge, flake off.

Also, the color, Blackest Black is seriously black.  Think ink, think tar, think really freaking black.

They have a Blackest Blue shade, which promises to make the whites of your eyes appear whiter.  I am probably going to get this, since I am becoming obsessed with bright whites…and not the laundry kind.

Have you tried Pixi?  Do you like it?

September 2013 Ipsy Glam Bag!!!

11 Sep

2013-09-11 08.59.55

I’m happy I finally got around to blogging about August because my Ipsy  September Glam Bag arrived yesterday….unexpectedly!  I didn’t think it would be shipped until next week since I didn’t get an option of a Sneak Peek this month.

So BONUS!  It was like a true surprise.  I had no idea what to expect.  Zero.  Zilch.  Nada.

The bag is awesome!!!!  And I love LOVE the makeup bag this month.  It’s going in my purse tonight.  Bam.

2013-09-11 08.58.44 2013-09-11 08.57.57

What I got:

Elizabeth Mott Mascara sample

Cailyn Lip Balm in Big Apple.  (I can’t wait to try this, the color is so gorgeous in the bottle)

Nyx eye shadow

Starlooks eyeliner in Obsidian

I’m really psyched for the lip balm.  I have Cailyn gel liner, and I’m so happy with the quality.  I expect nothing less from this.

Reviews of all products will happen!

What did you get in your Ipsy bag???

Thanks Ipsy!!!!!

Make-up Hack – How to extend the life of your Mascara

23 Jul

Let’s just start my saying that I’m cheap.  I hate having to buy new Mascara because the MAC Haute and Naughty I’ve been really into lately is $20 a tube.   I really like this mascara because it’s two-in-one.  Hence the name.  😀

  Two brushes in one !

Image

Anyway, I was trying to figure out how to get the most of my mascara when I came across some advice that said to add 5 drops of Saline solution to the tube of mascara when it’s starting to dry out.  And guess what?  It’s freaking works!!!!

Image

reminder- don’t share mascara and always throw it out if you have had an eye infection as you can re-infect yourself.  The same goes for toothbrushes.
