September-ish empties 2018

8 Oct

It’s probably been about a year or more since I wrote an empties post.  When I started to think about getting back into blogging, I started collecting the empties here and there.  I’m sure there are a lot of items missing from here, but I tried to hang on to the products I wanted to talk about.  I’m also still debating whether to only include full size products or beauty box subscription products too.   I’m sure I will change my mind a 100 times.

So what did I use?   Fragrance?  Make up?  Hair?

I will probably say a little something about each of the products.   So left to right, we have:

Simple Eye Make Up Remover Pads – These are pretty great and really affordable at just under $7.00.  One pad removes almost all of stubborn eye make up.

Calvin Klein Beauty – This fragrance is really light and fruity/citrus.   It is really great for work and I would get a lot of compliments.

100% Pure Coffee Bean Caffeine Eye Cream – I buy this eye cream on and off and I still like it.

L’Oreal Elvive Total Repair Shampoo – I really like the Total Repair line.  I think it’s the best drug store shampoo and conditioner.

Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb – this is my favorite go to evening and special occasion scent.

Simple Cleansing Wipes – My go to, I use them as a make-up remover and also as a cleanser in a pinch.

Caudalie Vinosource Moisturizing Sorbet – this was an okay moisturizer.  Not remarkable but not terrible.

Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray – one of the best setting sprays on the market, it just punches your wallet a little too much.

Dr. Jart+ Water Fuse – good product.  Recently reviewed on the site.

Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion – One of Holy Grails.

DermaE Purifying Daily Detox Scrub – I really like this line and this was a good scrub.

Drybar Bay Breeze Shot – this didn’t wow me, that’s all.

Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray – I have no idea how to use these sprays so they are sort of lost on me.   I can’t even give an actual review 🙂  but, I didn’t end up with the feeling this product changed my life somehow.

Have you Lovelies tried any of these?  What did you think?  What were your Empties for September?  Link to your blog in the comments 🙂

Thanks for reading!

Review – Derma E Glycolic Cleanser

16 Sep

I am always attracted to products with glycolic acids because I have this idea they are super luxe and medical grade quality exfoliators.  Here is a not so quick read on what glycolic acids are, in case you are not familiar with the ingredient.

Ages ago, in my local Target or Meijer (can’t recall), I came across the Derma E Glycolic Cleanser.  It retails for around $8.00.   I think I got it for about $4.00

I normally really like Derma E as a line.  It’s natural and their scrubs are really effective.  I won’t lie if I say they are some of my favorites.   So, this was on sale, I’m cheap and it’s a huge bottle.

Here is a description of the product:

Thoroughly cleanse and rejuvenate skin with this healthy, fragrance-free face wash. pH balanced, it won’t strip skin of its natural oils or leave any noticeable residue. Glycolic Acid helps slough away dull, lifeless surface cells and unclog pores, leaving skin clean, soft and youthful looking. Marine Plant Extracts, Chamomile and Aloe Vera help purify, detoxify and harmonize skin with every use. 100% vegan, cruelty-free, paraben-free, sulfate-free, mineral oil-free, lanolin-free, gluten free, GMO-free.

What did I think?

I couldn’t get past the texture of this cleanser!  It’s sort of slimy. Which is weird since it’s a wet texture, but it’s slimy.  And the weird part of it is that it’s cooler than the rest of my products.

So much so, that I actually hate putting it on my skin. I figured out quickly that I needed to warm this up in my hands first, before I apply to my face. Sort of stupid, no?

Is it effective?

I don’t notice any difference if I use this for a month or something else.  So, I would say it’s not unclogging pores or leaving my skin youthful looking.  I don’t think this product exfoliates at all.

Would I repurchase?

No.  Not that I won’t try other cleansers from Derma E, but I won’t be reaching for this one again.

All Natural Mineral Foundation – Alima Pure.

14 Jan

Like many others I got on board with the BareMinerals rage a number of years ago.  Unfortunately, it totally broke me out and made my skin look really dry and flat.  Not really sure why.

Since then I have been reluctant to try other mineral based make-up, although I received samples of Alima Pure from a local natural makeup store and decided to try it and I was pleasantly surprised.

It covers well, feels silky smooth and doesn’t make me look cakey – plus it has a cute bird on it!

Put a bird on it!

Alima Pure also carries a wide variety of mineral eyeshadows!  Super cute and super shimmery!

The Quest for the Holy Grail…of foundations.

2 May

I know several people who hate wearing foundation or those who only wear it for special occasions  and I’m not going to lie, I am jealous of them.

Since I have red, uneven skin due to a skin condition called rosacea I have been questing for the perfect foundation for years.

100% Pure Healthy Skin foundation has been my go to foundation for the last year.

Pro – Tip : Radiant skin on a budget

17 Apr

Ladies, exfoliating your lovely faces is a must in your regular beauty routine. How else do you think we are able to keep our youthful appearances?

Certain friends in the med spa business have told us “Girl, you need to scrub daily!”  And because we listen to anyone in a lab coat, we do.

There are so many products on the market aimed to exfoliate and scrub and promise to reveal a more youthful you. A lot of those products are really good, but the costs add up. Especially if you are looking to do this every day. Also to keep in mind, many drug store scrubs are actually very harsh and can break capillaries causing damage to your skin. Dreadful!

Don’t fret, we found a solution in the form of raw silk!
