DIY hair mask disaster!

12 Nov

The lovely Maria from  Beauty on a Budget wrote a wonderful post about DIY hair masks last week.  Check out her fun blog 🙂

I decided to do one, and I failed…I FAILED HARD.

It all started out great.  Olive oil, honey, banana…what can go wrong?

What I used:

1 banana (peeled)

2 tablespoons of honey

1 cap full of olive oil

I mixed it all in a cup.  I made sure the banana was really well mashed.  It turned out to be almost liquid.

I put it on my hair and  covered with a plastic bag because this was pretty watery and drippy.

I left it on my hair for 20 minutes and then I rinsed and washed my hair.  I conditioned as normal.

And then my hair was left with this ALL OVER MY HEAD

My hair was so dry and tangled, I couldn’t even get a comb through it.  I had to condition it two more times after this, just to get it manageable.  It still hasn’t fully recovered.

It’s like the banana solidified on my head and then turn to rubber.  Or a balloon exploded on my head.

Pro-tip, if you are allergic to latex, you may want to watch your banana consumption.

I have no idea what I did wrong. All I know that is my hair is not moisturized.

September 2013 Julep Maven Box – Bombshell box!

11 Sep

2013-09-04 20.39.42 2013-09-04 20.37.13

I’m a bombshell now!  I am loving on the bronzey/winey/glittery one called Karmen.  I’m rocking it right now.  Boom, glitter nails.

The real winner of this box is the facial cleansing oil.  It is called the Bare Face Cleansing oil $22.40 if you are a Maven, Otherwise it’s $28.00.

My review:  This actually takes off most of my waterproof mascaras.   The formulas that an actual makeup remover had trouble removing, this stuff succeeds.  It smells so good.  Sort of citrusy. Feels good on the skin, and It is actually helping with my stupid blackhead problem on my nose.

For real, I now look forward to washing my face at night.  Unless this gives me a wart or something catastrophic, I will dish out the $20+ for this gem.

From Julep:

Bare Face Cleansing Oil: This lightweight, antioxidant-rich cleanser gently and thoroughly dissolves makeup, dirt, and excess oil without over-drying skin, then rinses clean with no oily residue. Recommended for all skin types.

DIY – Coffee Sugar Scrub

16 May

Turns out, using coffee in a scrub actually has some benefits other than making your body smell like heaven and your skin feel amazingly smooth.

  • Caffeine has anti-inflammatory properties and also helps to speed the healing of skin wounds.
  • Caffeine typically aids in blood flow which helps prevent varicose veins and cellulite.
  • Caffeine is a natural antioxidant which help reduce age spots and wrinkles

Recipe:
1 cup Coffee Grounds (used or unused)
1 cup Coffee Grounds (used or unused)
1/2 cup Coconut or Olive oil
1 cup Sugar (I recommend raw cane sugar)
1 tsp Nutmeg
1 Tbs Ground Cinnamon

Mix together and you are done.il_570xN.451666197_gaqq

How to use:  Apply to damp skin in the shower, scrub, rinse off.

Seriously this scrub is so easy to make that you can do it in under 5 minutes.  Just make sure to use it within about 5 days or it will start to go bad.

“It smells so good you will want to eat it!”
