Dr. Brandt Microdermabrasion – One of my favorite products of all time!

21 Sep

Happy Friday Lovelies!

I was looking through all the products I use on a regular basis recently and the Dr. Brandt brand  is in pretty heavy rotation in my collection.  One of my favorite products of all time is from the Brandt Collection, The Microdermabrasion Skin Exfoliant.

I have previously blogged about this before here and here.

Even at the $79.00 USD price tag, I cannot stay away from this.  I honestly just think this is the best exfoliator you will get on the market without going to a professional.

This takes off all of your dead skin cells, cleans your pores, polishes your skin and keeps you from aging.  People always ask me how my skin looks so good, this is it.   I use this once week.  You don’t really need to use it much more than  that, it’s THAT good.   This tube, above, has lasted me for 3 years.   If you break down the math, that’s only $26.00 USD per year.  Don’t you spend more than that on the cheaper exfoliating products?  Be honest 🙂

Most other similar products have larger crystals/balls/walnut husks or whatever to do a good enough job at exfoliating or microdermablading your skin.   Some of the other products can actually scratch your skin and/or break your capillaries.  If you injure your skin, you are doing a lot more harm than good.

Dr. Brandt products are available directly through and

If you are signed up for Ebates, you can earn 4% back at Sephora and an 8% at Dr. Brandt direct.  You don’t know about Ebates?  What, you need to go treat your self and earn money back on some of the stuff you buy online.  Also, if you sign up for the newsletter on the Brandt website, they have specials and sales very often that you can take advantage of to stock up on your faves.

Do you have a favorite exfoliating product?  What is it and why?

Thanks for reading!

Review-POND’S Rejuveness Anti-Wrinkle Cream

28 May

POND’S Rejuveness Anti-Wrinkle Cream is a daily moisturizer formulated with Formulated with AHAs (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) and collagen,  to help reduce wrinkles with regular use.  POND’S claims results to be visible in 2 weeks.  You can buy it for under $10.00 at a drug store in the US.

Does it work?

Yes, but NOT in 2 weeks as the company claims.  I picked this up and set it down for months before I committed to using it twice a day for over a month.  That’s when I finally noticed that I was seeing some slight results.

So what did I see?

I saw a small improvement in my skin.

More moisturized and smoother.  Smoother around my eyes. Better skin tone.

How long did it actually take to see results?

Over a month.  So, easily double the time the company claims.  Probably closer to 6-8 weeks.

Additional thoughts

I think this works very well as a daily moisturizer.   I didn’t feel like I needed additional products even during February and March.  I don’t think it would work really well if you have deep wrinkles.  It does help with uneven skin tone, but if you are dealing with serious discoloration, this may not be enough.

On the plus side, if you have sensitive skin or your skin doesn’t tolerate high levels of  AHA’s, this may be the product for you.

Would I repurchase?

Maybe, to use as a moisturizer.  But I wouldn’t purchase it to fix any aging issues.

Have you Lovelies tried any drugstore anti-aging products? Have you tried POND’S Rejuveness Anti-Wrinkle Cream?  What are your thoughts?

Review – Épicé Purifying Exfoliant!

19 Feb

Épicé Purifying Exfoliant was in my January 2014 Ipsy Glam Bag.

Oh how I love exfoliants!!!

exfoliant cartoon_s

I was very excited to get Épicé Purifying Exfoliant in my Ipsy.  What a great way to start off the year!

What is it?

From Ipsy:

A unique exfoliant which removes excess dirt and dead skin cells all while activating collagen production and hydrating your skin. This moisture rich formula utilizes mild, non-irritating and anti-bacterial cleansers with micro-fine polyspheres which enhances skin texture and clarity for a clean, fresh appearance. Purifying Exfoliant is also great to use on the entire body and after just a few uses, you will begin to see improvement in the look and feel of your skin.

Micro-fine polyspheres gently exfoliate removing excess dead cells and environmental debris.
Exfoliation helps open pores, which increases excretion of toxins.
Packed with emollients, humectants and barrier protectors to hydrate dry, irritated skin.
Contains several natural collagen boosters for damaged skin.
Softens skin as it cleans.
Non-irritating, antiseptic, bacteria and fungus fighting properties.

This retails for $32.00 USD and you can get it here.

My thoughts

I think this is a lovely exfoliant.  It’s certainly not a budget product and very high end.  It has a pleasant scent and it does what it says it does.

I also like that it can be left on longer to act as a mask.  It leaves my skin nice and soft.

Would I repurchase?  If I had an unlimited budget, yes.  Otherwise, no.

As much as I like it, I don’t think it does anything additional that a drug store exfoliant doesn’t do.

But I am sure happy I got to try it!  Such a generous sample too.  🙂

Have you tried this line?

January 2014 Empties!

First Empties post of the year!!!!

E.L.F Setting Spray – a staple

New favorite!!!!

DermOrganics Shaping Spray.  I used the shampoo and conditioner from this as well.  I like it.  Re-purchase?  Probably.

Living Proof.  I like the Style Extender from this line better.  Purchase full?  Probably not.

Dr. Brandt.  Reviewed here and here.

Arbonne shampoo and conditioner – review to come. Purchase?  Maybe….

Sorry the writing got all faded.  NYX HD Eye Shadow Base.  Another staple.  Reviewed here.

Urban Decay 24/7 Liquid Eye Liner.  This hasn’t been reviewed.   Re-purchase?  Maybe? If you would like a full review, let me know in comments 🙂

Eucerin hand lotion.  This held up super well in the freakish Polar Vortex that hit Chicago in December.  Worse winter ever….but I digress.  Re-purchase?  Probably.

Proactiv Mark Fading Pads reviewed here.  I would purchase these in a heart beat.  SO IN LOVE.

Lots of samples this month, but also some actual make-up!

Hope you enjoyed this trip through my garbage HAHA.

Review – The Proactiv+ Mark Fading Pads.

28 Jan

I was really excited to try these because I love any beauty product with any acid as an ingredient.  I’m sick, I know.  But hey, it keeps your skin freaking amazing.

So, let’s get down to business with these Proactiv+ Mark Fading Pads.  As you may recall, these were in my January Ipsy Glam Bag.

I haven’t tried anything from the Proactiv line before.  Even though I don’t have any marks or acne scars fade, I was excited to try these Mark Fading Pads because they boasted a 2% salicylic acid solution.  I am a huge fan of salicylic acid and sadly it usually comes in cleansers or gels as an acne treatment.

What is it?

Salicylic acid is a beta hydroxy acid derived from the bark of a willow tree.  It basically makes your skin shed.

Ok, so what do these Proactiv+ Mark Fading Pads actually do and why are you so excited about them?

1) My skin was super soft

2) Pores were teeny tiny

3) Anything that was waiting to erupt under the dermis – GONE

3) Glowing skin

The bad?

As with any Practiv product, you have to get a whole collection to get these.  Since I don’t have acne, I’m spending gagillion dollars on acne treatment. Duh.

But now I had a taste of the salicylic acid goodness,  so I went internet hunting.  I wanted a toner or pads that I can use in a similar way as The Fading Pads.  I may have found it…will review it soon.

Peeled skin is happy skin!

Pro-tip: The Smoothest Shave You Will Ever Have.

10 Dec

You are going to think I’m out of my mind!

A while back I had a friend that put herself through school by being a stripper.  That exists, I thought it was just a Made-for-TV movie kind of thing.  Anyway, the point is I once asked her how dancers make sure they are well-groomed in the leg and bikini areas.  [i guess I ask weird things.]

Today I will share this secret with you.  You won’t believe me, but then for some reason you will try it and will thank me.  In a private message.

The secret to a super smooth shave: Lube.

Yes, lubricant. As in, condom aisle.

Here is the trick.   You want to get a high quality silicone based lubricant [Ultra by Wicked] otherwise it’s way too drying and not worth the money.  I would recommend first starting by using it for special occasions as Winter can be drying as is.  But honestly, silicon based lube can be used as a moisturizer so it shouldn’t dry you out.  Water-based lubricants totally will.

How to use:  Use it in the shower or bath as you normally would.  Be careful as it can get a bit slippery if it gets on your shower floor.  I recommend shaving at the end of your shower after your follicles have opened up and after exfoliating.  Use a high quality razor, not some disposal razor.  Those have been proven to not work as well as the non-disposable kind.  I am a Mach3 man razor kinda gal.  You might also like the Venus, if you aren’t up for dude razors.

Just so you know I’m not insane and just making this all up.  Sex Educator, Sunny Megatron, also mentions this use for Silicon lubricants in THIS article.  She also uses it de-frizz her hair, for squeaky doors and for dry skin.

Enjoy your baby soft legs.  🙂

My favorite shaving cream

18 Oct

I have tried various different shaving creams, even ones for dudes and this is my go-to.  I seriously hate everything else.

Smoothest shave from a drug store product (aside form baby oil) and really not that pricey.  (around $2.50)

What about you gals?  What is your fav?

My new favorite thing smooth summer legs

7 Jun

So on a whim I bought Johnson & Johnson baby oil.  The shea butter one – because the regular one smells super gross to me.  My clock must be messed up because that baby powder smell doesn’t do it for me.  *gag*

It’s a whole $3.50 at Target and makes my skin feel amazing, I just rub on after I get out of the shower.  I also feel like I have had to shave less which is a freaking miracle if you ask me.  I wonder what happens if you use it to shave with?  Gonna have to perform that for SCIENCE!

Shaving pro-tip: Use a dude razor.  Not disposable though, those suck.

Shaving – Do you use a razor designed for her or for him?

31 May

Ok ladies, I know I am not the only one out there that has completely ditched using razors designed for woman.  Ever since I first tried the Mach3 Turbo I have never looked back.  (We are talking a good 10 years of man razor use and I actually think I nick myself less with dude razors.)

What do you guys think?  Is there a razor for woman that actually works as good?  I know the companies that make these want woman to buy lady specific ones because they are actually more expensive:

Gillette Mach3 Turbo from [] 8 count refill – $18.99

Gillette Venus Devine from [] 8 count refill – $21.99

PROTIP: Disposable versions of any razor don’t work as well as the normal kind.

I would love to hear what you think….
