Review – Parlor Moisturizing Sea Salt Spray

2 Jun

Happy Thursday, Lovelies!  I always really enjoy reviewing hair care products.  And I enjoy receiving hair care products to review!  I got the Parlor Moisturizing Sea Salt Spray in my April Birchbox.

My first reaction at receiving a sea salt spray was bored disappointment.  I have never used one that I absolutely love.  I use it and it seems good the first time, and then it ends up fading my hair color or drying my hair or it gets greasy.  (what’s up with that?)

So I wasn’t excited about Parlor Moisturizing Sea Salt Spray.  But I tried it.

My first time, I LOVED it.  I had used it just after I took out my extensions and loved the waves this created in my hair.   Here’s is some background on the product before I dive into my thoughts.

From the Parlor website:

Part beach wave spray, part leave-in conditioner, this formula gives hair that covetable surfer-girl texture without the drying effects of salt water.

All hair types

Adds volume and creates perfectly undone, beachy waves without drying out your hair.

Sweet almond extract – protects hair fibers and infuses softness, volume, and brilliance into weak or damaged hair.

Algae extract – helps rebalance the scalp’s moisture content while protecting, stimulating, and nourishing the scalp with vitamins.

Spray evenly on damp or dry hair and style with your fingers. For increased hold, diffuse with hair dryer.

Did it deliver what it promised?

Yes, my waves were more formed and bigger (I do have a natural wave in my hair).  My hair was shiny and soft not crunchy.  My hair looked pretty.  And all I did was spray this on and scrunch it up.

Bonus use

If you don’t wash your hair daily, this also works to hold your second day style.  I curled my hair the second day after I used it (many times) and it consistently keeps my hair styled and the curl last longer.

One thing I disliked about other sea salt sprays was that it was pretty much impossible to make my hair look good the day after.  It would be either stringy or frizzy.  Sometimes both. Uncute.

Would I purchase full size?

Yes!  It retails for $24.00 which is not the cheapest styling product but it’s also not the most expensive.  Also, you don’t drench your hair with this, so it does last a while.  I’m still using my Bichbox sample size and we are already in June.

Have you guys used  Parlor Moisturizing Sea Salt Spray?  What did you think?

Review – Garnier Fructis Marvelous Oils

13 Aug

I received a sample of the Garnier Fructis Marvelous Oils from PinchMe. PinchMe is a service where you can elect to receive free samples of stuff and then write a brief review.  If you like free swag, this may be your thing.  Click here.

It comes in three different formulas : Deep Nourish, Frizz Defy, and Color Illuminate.

The product retails for around $5.99 so it’s really budget friendly.

Garnier claims that it can be used 5 different ways:

Hair oil treatment for dry, damaged hair.

This hair oil treatment for dry, damaged hair, with custom-blended Cupuaçu & Brazilnut oil, nourishes and helps repair.

How to use:

Marvelous Oil can be used in any of 5 ways! Try a different use each day.

1. Pre-Shampoo Treatment: Apply to hair (wet or dry) before shampooing to help prime hair locks for gentle cleaning.
2. Boost Conditioning: Add 1 or 2 drops to your conditioner to help get rid of pesky knots and tangles.
3. Blow-Dry Protector: Apply to damp to help protect when blow drying.
4. Finish With Hi-Watt Shine: Apply to damp or dry ends to help smooth split ends and tame flyaways.
5. Treat Hair Overnight: To restore softness while you sleep, work into wet or dry hair and leave in overnight.

My thoughts

I used Garnier Fructis Marvelous Oils 4 out of the 5 possible ways.  I didn’t put it in my conditioner.

I think this is one of the better drug store hair products and hair oils. I regularly use a Matrix Oil, and this isn’t too far off from the high end product. Would I repurchase?  I don’t know. I love the Matrix product so I don’t see a reason to switch.  However, if I needed to make a choice between a $6 bottle or a $20 bottle, I would pick the Garnier.

It smells super fruity, like a typical Garnier product.  The scent doesn’t linger very long, but it does stick around for a bit.  I think it smells delightful.

I wasn’t crazy about the color.  It was very yellow. Sort of reminded me of olive oil.  However, it did absorb quickly and it didn’t weight my hair down.

Have you tried Garnier Fructis Marvelous Oils?

Review – Marc Anthony Dream Waves Beach Spray

21 Jul

Hey there beach babe!  Do you want flirty mermaid waves every day?

Well then, Marc Anthony Dream Waves Beach Spray may just be what you desire.

Marc Anthony Dream Waves retails for $8.99 for about 4.5 fl oz of product.

I received a sample from Ipsy that is about a quarter of the full size, and I still have a good amount of this left.  Less is more when it comes to wave sprays.

From Ulta:

Strictly Curls Beach Spray texturizes, boosts waves, adds body and volume, protects hair from the sun and creates a tousled finish. Hydrolyzed Silk and Provitamin B5 protects hair as it hydrates and leaves a shine.

Why I like it

It delivers what it promises, beach waved hair

It doesn’t weigh it down, if not over used.  I cannot stress this part enough; if you apply too much of this product, you hair will look limp and greasy and sorta crunchy.  Uncute.

I have used this on wet and dry hair. Very similar results on either application.

You can use this on dirty hair!  So you dry shampoo fans who like to skip a wash, this will work on your day or 2 day old hair.

If you use it on dry hair, it won’t get you super waved, but it will give you some texture and shape.

Why I dislike it.

These aren’t really “dislikes”, they are not some small cons:

I think it sort of fades colored hair.

It can leave dry hair a bit drier even though it claims to hydrate.

I don’t think it leaves a shine, but it doesn’t leave your hair completely dull.

Would I repurchase?

Probably yes.  It’s a super great price and it I like how it works.  Great for a lazy hair day.

Have you tried Marc Anthony Dream Waves Beach Spray?  Do you like it?

PS. Kassi and I really like Honduras.

Part 2 To Leave In Or Not To Leave In – Review – Sexy Hair Healthy Hair Soy Tri-Wheat Leave In Conditioner

11 Jul

Another leave in conditioner I recently used up was the  Sexy Hair Healthy Hair Soy Tri-Wheat Leave In Conditioner.

You can get a full size bottle at Ulta for $17.95.

Why I like the Sexy Hair Healthy Hair Soy Tri-Wheat Leave In Conditioner

It has a nice scent

It keeps my hair soft

It was a decent detangler, although I thought the Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle was better at this.

I also didn’t think it made my hair as shiny.

Where it fell short

This too, I thought could be better at frizz control.  I do realize my hair is crazy frizzy, so this will probably work for the ladies with better behaved hair.

*my hair frizzes if you look at it wrong

I also like that it it’s slightly less expensive, and we like less expensive stuff here at Fairy Godmother!

Would I repurchase?

Probably not.  I don’t think I have found my Holy Grail of leave ins yet.  But I’m pretty sure this isn’t it.

June Ipsy Bag! Pretty in Paradise

26 Jun

June’s Ipsy bag is super fun!  AND even though I have an irrational hate of pineapples, I do love the pineapple print on the bag itself.  🙂

Almost every single item in this bag was a huge win for me.  I mean, like L.O.V.E.

NYX butter gloss – love

Skinn Olive & Enzyme Cleanser – LOVE.  I love the scent of this, I love how it feels on my face.  I love how well it removes everything.
Nicka K New York Shimmer Eyeliner in Green.  SO MUCH LOVE.  This thing has serious staying power.  I even ran 2 miles in this stuff (disclaimer, I was wearing UD primer) and it stayed put.
Marc Anthony Dream Waves Beach Spray – LOVE!  I’ve never used a beach spray before and was skeptical.  But I’m wearing it two days in the row now.
The not so love – Be A Bombshell Lash Out Mascara
I think be a bombshell is sort of hit and miss with their products, so I wasn’t sure what to expect.  I’m not sure if this stuff was super old or dry, but it did NOTHING for my lashes.  Zip, nada. nothing.
Oh well
I loved everything else.

Hiding your unwashed hair

31 Jul

I’m in the process of training my hair to go longer between washes.  I find that it’s best to dress like an extra from the television show Game of Thrones to hide my unwashed hair.  Red lipstick also seems to help disguise it.

This hair style is my favorite summer ‘do’ right now as its super easy and super cute.  You literally just put the headband over your hair and then tuck your end in the elastic band.  Bam!

ImageThumbs up! -kassi

Cute alert! Ulta headbands.

8 Jul

Anna just got this SUPER cute headband from Ulta.  They have an awesome selections of different styles.  They are PERFECT for the 3 step tuck!  (which is my new favorite summer hair style.)

Check out this cute headband!  It’s like Flapper meets Hippie.  But not is a weird dumb way.
