Review – Supergoop! Setting Mist with Rosemary

16 Jun

IMG_3230

I am a huge fan of setting mists.  My face tends to be oily in the summer, and that’s when I usually will use a setting mist on a daily basis.  I like the way  it helps to set everything.

I am vaguely familiar with the Supergoop! brand through my Ipsy and Birchbox subscriptions.  I have tried other sunscreen products from them in the past, and they were okay.  However, this I thought is their best product I’ve encountered.

This is a setting spray with SPF!

I am so INTO this idea, especially for summer time outdoorsy activities!!!  (this requires 3 exclamation points, this is the level of excitement I am at)

From the Supergoop! website:

Scoop on the goop!
You may be sporting sun savvy style with a full face of UV protection infused make-up each morning, but did you know that by noon, that UV protection is likely no longer? The secret to totally sun-safe skin is reapplying your UV defense at least every 2 hours, when in direct sunlight. No time or desire to tamper with that airbrushed coverage, detailed contouring or perfect pout you created just a few hours ago? Well, now you can refresh your UV defense without hassle and still maintain your gorgeous full face of make-up!

What Makes This Goop Super
• Innovative 3-in-1 mist delivers broad spectrum SPF 50 protection while serving double duty as your setting mist to finish your morning make-up routine as well as a mid-afternoon refreshing spray
• Optical diffusing silica silylate controls oil and scatters light to reduce shine and provide a matte finish
• Enlivened with an invigorating essence of antioxidant rich rosemary that helps improve complexion and soothe inflammation

Who This Is Ideal For
This invigorating Defense Refresh Setting Mist is great for all skin types.

My Review

Does this work?

YES – it sets and protects.  Here is how I like to use this – when I go biking outdoors in hot Chicago summer.  I will do minimal make-up (blush and eye brow fill) and set this.  I spent 3 hours in the sun, no burn.  On the plus side, this also prevented my face from becoming oily the way some other sunscreen products can.

Will I buy this?

YES – the smallest size, perfect for travel is $8.00!  Take it with you camping, hiking, bike riding, beach, and you can respray as needed.

Have you guys tried  Supergoop! Setting Mist with Rosemary?  Do you like it?

Review – Coola Face SPF 30 Mineral Matte Tint Unscented

4 Apr

Coola Face SPF 30 Mineral Matte Tint Unscented surprised me.

I received this in my Birchbox in March.

I have a number of these Coola products that all seem slightly different, but the same.  And you have to read the entire package to actually figure out there are some differences.  I don’t know if it’s because they are still playing with the formula or what.  All I know is that I tried this and liked it and went to look at all my other samples and they didn’t exactly match this.  Wah!

wpid-20140319_065937.jpg

Why I love this~

It says matte and it means it.  There is no shine.  It’s great.

Stays more matte than most bb/tinted moisturizers.

Good wear and lasting power.

Would I buy it?

Maybe.  I like it as a tinted moisturizer.  I don’t really think it’s a real BB cream in the way of Asian BB creams. Asian BB creams are more than just a tinted moisturizer.  They are more like tinted treatments.

Are you a Coola fan?

Best BB Cream For Your Skin

16 Oct

BB and CC creams are ALL the rage right now.  Woman in Korea have been using them for years but the cosmetic trend in the US has just started to pick up over the last few years.

What is a BB cream?  BB creams are essentially and All-In-one product that acts as a moisturizer/foundation/sunscreen.  Some of them have skin correcting anti-aging ingredients, some have ingredients to correct redness or dark spots.  Really, they are all quite different.

As they aim to replace all your other products, sometimes you just need to layer.  If you have super dry skin you might need to apply moisturizer first.  Bad breakout? Probably need concealer or even foundation over the BB cream.

Best For Oily Skin:
L’Oréal Paris Studio Secrets Magic Skin Beautifier B.B. Cream ($10.95, lorealparisusa.com)

Best For Pale Skin:
Dr. Jart+ Water Fuse Beauty Balm SPF 25 PA++ ($34, sephora.com); one shade

Best For Dark Skin (and Medium and Light):
Maybelline Dream Fresh BB 8-in-1 Beauty Balm Skin Perfector SPF 30 ($7.44, maybelline.com)

I personally need a more medium-full coverage Foundation so I have yet to find a BB cream that can replace my go-to 100% Pure Foundation.  But if you are one of those people lucky enough to not have to wear foundation, a BB cream might be perfect for you.     -kassi

Review! Ipsy Glam Bag July

7 Aug

This is way late, and I’m super sorry!!!!!!!

July’s theme was beach, baby, beach!

ipsy2

I’ve loved each makeup bag Ipsy has sent me, and this one is no exception.  It would be a perfect vacation or beach kit.

Anywayzzzz, on to the swag:

Ipsy5

Pop Beauty Pouty Pop Crayon in Fushcia Flirt $16 (maybe??)  The products individually aren’t on their website.  It’s $25.00 for a kit of minis.  This looks like a full size product.

I’m not super into this product.  The color isn’t awesome for me.  I use it as my morning lipstick during the work week.  It’s very purple/pink, and it may not transition easily into a fall makeup look.  It’s okay, but it’s not a love.

Also, I prefer the textures of Mirenesse glosses way better than Pop.

Ipsy4

Coola Mineral Face SPF 20 Moisturizer Sample.   Full size is $36.00

I haven’t used this yet!  I haven’t been in the sun too much, and I’ve been loving my Juice Beauty CC with SPF  SO MUCH.  I don’t want to change right now.

IPsy3  Ipsy1

BH California Collection Sample.  Full size retails for 8.95

I haven’t used this either!  Gahhhhhh I’m a makeup failure.  The colors look really nice, and I love the California theme.  Hollywood is a gorgeous purple.

Ipsy6

Big Sexy Hair Travel Size.  I love this hair spray, so I was super excited to receive it.

I like having a travel size in my car, just in case your hair needs a refresher.

Demeter Salt Hair Perfume Oil Roll $10.00

This is my favorite item from this month’s Glam Bag.  I love perfume oils, and I know they are not for everyone, but I was really excited to see this was an oil.  I didn’t know Demeter even made oils.  yay!

This really does smell light, summery, and beachy.  Sort of reminds me of the beach early in the morning.  On a resort.  In Mexico.  BEST.

This is my daily day scent.  I replaced my previous Ipsy find from Pacifica with this Demeter fragrance.  Demeter doesn’t have the best holding power, so I do reapply a few times a day.  But, who cares?!  It smells good.  And if I want a moment to myself, I’m taking it. 🙂

This was not the best Glam Bag for me.  I haven’t even tried two of the products.  Maybe I will do separate reviews of them once I get around to using them.  I guess I should get moving on sunscreen.  Summer is almost over in Chicago….why??????

Have you tried any of these products?  What did you think?

Review: Lumene Vitamin C+ Illuminating Anti-Age BB Cream, Medium SPF 20

9 Jul

Kassi and I exchange makeup a lot.  She got this free with a purchase and decided to give to me to try.

Lumene

What it is:

Lumene Vitamin C+ Illuminating Anti-Age BB Cream, Medium SPF 20 $14.99

What it does:

Discover a daily, multi-beneficial beauty product that works like skincare but acts like lightweight makeup. Lumene Vitamin C+ skin Illuminating Anti-Age BB Cream not only delivers powerful SPF 20 protection but also brightens, hydrates, evens skin tone and covers blemishes, all while improving elasticity for a more youthful appearance. Available in two shades, the BB Cream can be used alone, after applying day cream or under foundation. It’s the quick and easy way to younger, perfect-looking skin. That’s the Power of Arctic Nature.

Lumene2

My Review:

First of – I want to point out that on the CVS site, the directions tell you to use this as a day cream. “Use as Day Cream. Apply to cleansed skin.”

Sounds simple, yes?

Curiously, on my sample the directions told me to reapply every 2 hours.  Closer to how you are supposed to use sunscreen.

This turned me off immediately.  If I wanted sunscreen, I would use sunscreen.  And then reapply every 2 hours.

Based on that, I think this may be used best as a sunscreen.  Like at the beach.   Because I don’t know any girl who is going to continuously slather her face with sunscreen while at work.

Get real.

Pros:

Good coverage, the Medium was dark for me but I don’t think it would be dark enough for a much darker skin tone.  I was able to easily blend it in using some concealer.

It didn’t break me out

It didn’t smell

Cons:

Doesn’t seem to be an actual BB cream, but a sunscreen product with added benefits.  Which I think is great, if it was marketed correctly.

If you are looking for a BB or CC cream, find one with a non-chemical sunscreen.  This will eliminate the need for reapplication.

Sunscreen vs no Sunscreen vs Coconut oil as Sunscreen?

6 Jun

Coconut Oil

There is so much information about sunscreen coming out lately.  We at Fairy Godmother have a confused attitude about it, probably like a lot of folks.  Sunscreen causing cancer is a freaking scary concept!

Also, Anna is allergic to most products that contain SPF so she rarely uses it on her face.  And by rarely we mean when she is sitting on the beach in Mexico.  🙂 Continue reading

May 2013 BirchBox Review

24 May

ImageI got my first Birch Box yesterday.  It was fun but also a little disappointing compared to the Ipsy that Anna received as she got FULL SIZED products.  <READ ABOUT IT HERE>

I unwrapped my cute little box to discover:

Image

Hair Masque, sunscreen, toothpaste, eyeliner and 4 tea bags.  Kind of boring.  I didn’t think I filled out the “send me some boring crap” profile.  I said I was edgy and loved makeup!  BIRCHBOX HALP.

So I am going to try it again next month and give them another chance.  Right now I don’t feel like I got my $10 worth.  Although I haven’t tried any of the products – aside from the tea, which is actually quite tasty but I wanted lip gloss or something to slather on my face.

As a side note – many of these sample sized products would be good to take on vacation.
