Review – All Natural Deodorant by NorthCoast Organics

4 Dec

Winter is a great time to switch to an all natural deodorant. I know this can seem scary (and stinky) but regular deodorants/antiperspirants have not so healthy ingredients in them. There are products out there that actually work at de-stinky you, it’s just a matter of finding one that works with your body’s chemistry. It’s also good to have a close enough friend who will tell you if you stink.

I personally use Death By Lavender from NorthCoast Organics. Look how cute this is!

The skull is totally why I tried it, not gonna lie.  “An elite assassin of odor you can trust.”

Their line of deodorants include three scents: Revolver [Cedarwood, Cypress and Clary Sage], Naked [unscented] and Death By Lavender [lavender, duh]. All three scents are totally unisex, although Revolver seems to be the most masculine.

Does it work? Will i smell?

First things first, I think it smells amazing! I am super biased though because I love lavender scented things. Revolver also smells great, very natural and kind of woodsy.

The deodorant lasts me all day and keeps me smelling fresh. I will admit, I don’t use it on the weekends if I know i’m going to be at a hot club or dancing around, I am just not that brave. Those nights I use regular, nasty ole Secret.

Remember, this is an deodorant not an antiperspirant so you will sweat a little. Although, since baking soda and corn starch are the main ingredients, it does absorb a good amount of the pit moisture. I even wear it working out and don’t find my pits to sloppy.

As I said before, everyone is different.

The one main draw back to this product is that it doesn’t glide on as softly as regular deodorants and I have heard complaints about it causing some irritation for some people as a result of that.

Where can I buy it?

I found it at Whole Foods. They also sell travel sized so you can try it out, or keep one in your purse or gym bag.

You can also find it online directly from the Chicago-based company: CLICK HERE

Winterizing your hair care

7 Oct

Do you live in the part of the world where the temps have dipped and you are already needing to use heat.

Dreaded heat, which dries out hair and skin.  Ewwwwww

We are only on week 2 (barely) of October, and my hair is already starting to static.  Irritating.

As a result, I am starting to use my oil in my hair to keep the fly aways away.

What are you doing to help manage your winter time hair?

Dupe – Urban Decay vs NYX Setting Spray

9 Jan

Makeup Setting Spray is a must have for anyone who wears makeup!  Seriously.  Rubbing your face off is dumb, stop doing it.  We are here to help you do it for cheap!

Image

We made a post a while back comparing Urban Decay’s setting spray vs E.L.F.  You can read it HERE.

Image

Let me summarize it for you – the E.L.F one works about the same and is $3. The problem with the E.L.F. is it smells like feet for the first minute of having it on your face.  Kinda gross, right?  That is what drove me to trying the NYX spray.

The NYX Setting spray comes in two varieties – Matte and Dewy.  I opted for the Matte as that is finish I most prefer, although I have heard that the dewy one is actually better for dry, Winter skin.

Image

It retails for $7.99, so it’s a bit more expensive than the E.L.F.

The Urban Decay setting spray is $29 – that is a savings of over $20.  SCORE!

The NYX doesn’t smell funky to me, didn’t break me out, makes my face powder look lovely and holds my makeup in place.  Really, it works the same as the Urban Decay – maybe it has a tiny bit less staying power but it’s not worth pay $20 extra IMO.

Cold Weather Gear!

6 Jan

While on the topic of the insane winter chill occurring in Chicago-

In November I was traveling in NYC and stopped by the Uniqlo store in Soho.  Uniqlo makes some of the BEST cold weather gear – at affordable prices.

Their HeatTech line is excellent for creating a base layer when dealing with extreme weather.  I have a couple tank tops, leggings and tights and I have been living in them this winter.

Image

The fabric is moisture wicking and retains body heat.  I guess the oils they weave into the fibers actually work with your own perspiration to help warm you.  Sounds expensive right?  Nope.   The socks are amazing.  They work almost as well as my incredibly thick SmartWool socks and feel like any normal, thin crew sock.  It’s space age magic!

The Heattech leggings and tights are thin.  The leggings are see-thru so don’t expect them to cover your bum.  They are SUPER soft and cozy.  Great for wearing under pants or under skirts.

Thanks to Uniqlo, I now own the best leggings I have ever owned (aside from Black Milk, but that’s Apples to Oranges.) The Uniqlo Legging Pants are freaking amazing.  They look like jeans, but you can go to an all-you-can-eat Brazilian Steak House and still be comfortable wearing them after gorging yourself.  Trust me.  I know things.  Also, they are under $20.Image

Product I Can’t Live Without in Winter…but wish I could.

12 Dec

Chicago is freaking FREEZING right now.  Which means everyone’s heat is set to “Tropical” and means my poor skin is super dry.

Like as in, so dry that I’m super itchy and am scratching myself raw while sleeping.  No lotion I own is helping and its been over a week.  So this means it’s that time of the year that I make my trip to the LUSH store.  Woe is me.  😛

The only thing that has ever helped me survive Winter is Ro’s Argan Body Conditioner.  It smells amazing (like roses) and it seriously makes my skin feel amazing and stops all the itching.  The problem – it’s $33 a 7.9oz Tub.  [LUSH has free shipping on everything until the end of the day, so act fast.]

Image

Here is the story:  LUSH product inventor Rowena made this decadent, rose-scented shower ‘lotion’. She noticed how much she liked the sultry soft feeling hair conditioner gives her hair, so she thought how nice it would be if she could have the same feeling for the body too. With scoops of cocoa butter, cupuacu butter, almond oil and Argan oils, and the fragrant scent of fresh rose petals, this is the most luxurious body softener that ever was (if we don’t say so ourselves!). After washing up, slather yourself all over with this new invention. Rinse, pat dry and revel in supremely soft, rose-scented skin.

An amazing way to use this product is to slather yourself with it before you take a bath and just soak away while it repairs your skin.

You can also use it to shave with…if you are rich.

What I’m into right now – Brown Eye Liner

6 Dec

I received a double ended brown/black liner from Julep a while ago and I got one from Paula Dorf years ago.  I fall in and out of love with this shade, but right now I’m way hard into it.

Big bonus – you can go heaver on the liner for work.

It looks appropriate for fall/winter.

Blends nicely with other browns and neutrals for the season.

Since it isn’t as harsh as black, you can get away with a festive red lip at work as well.  Big bonus…this girl likes her red lips.  MWAH!
